Quick question all, will it harm my T61P if I use a 65W *edited* adapter rather than a 90W? I've tried using a 65W and it seems to work fine.

    Thanks. :D

since when does Lenovo have a 40 watt adapter for Thinkpad? You can use the 65 watt adapter but it is not the best to use them, as they could easily overheat.

OK I'm completely losing it. I meant 65W! Thanks again for the advice, I'm keeping my eye out on the Lenovo outlet. My 12.5 month old second 90W adapter that's failed missed the warranty by 4 days when I called Lenovo a few weeks back, they wouldn't give me a replacement. B*stards....!

Well the laptop might hit 65 watts at full load and full brightness and maybe some peripherals using USB power, but won't have enough power to charge the battery. So if you plan on charging your battery while on full load then I think it won't work, but otherwise if you're at or near idle while charging your battery it won't do any harm. It probably will work so long as you're not constantly maxing out your GPU and CPU all the time while charging your battery.

But my recommendation is to stick to the 90 watt adapter. You'll probably see some performance degradation on a 65 watt charger, just like the quad core laptops that ship with only 90 watt adapters and need 130 or more watt adapters.

you can use the 135 watt adapter on the T61p, i am using the 135 watt on the T61 with integrated GPU.

I was using a 65w with my T60 and the adapter got hot as h3ll. It was kind of frightening. Also, the battery charge was really slow. I wouldn't do it again.

I might use a 65w to charge it overnight if the machine was off. That's about it.

In a pinch, the T61p on a 65W adapter will work just fine. However, the GPU may be downclocked slightly, as is the case when the quad-core version of the W510 is used on a 90W adapter. Also, charging your battery while using the 65W adapter will, as others have mentioned, be quite a bit slower than on the 90W adapter.

Superb, thanks for the advice everyone :) I'll get a 90W replacement when I see one on Lenovo's outlet, in the mean time I'll use my work laptops 65W adapter (but will keep an eye for any heat issues!)
