I don't know how many of you have seen the "Hardware Maintenance Manual" for the T61P.

It seems to indicate that the only manufacturer of the 15.4 WUXGA panel is Samsung (they spelled it "Sumsung"), part number 42T0408. Please refer to pages 140-141.

I think this is bad news for those waiting for the T61P's. From what I have heard Samsung makes pretty crappy 15.4 WUXGA panels. LG is supposed to be brighter and crisper.

Hopefully when the T61P is finally rolled out, this will change. At least with the WSXGA+, you had a 50/50 chance. Lenovo did offer both Samsung and LG panels for the Z61P.

Actually my Z61p uses a Hydis panel, it's a little (to) dim, has nice deep colors and is easier on the eyes than about any other notebook I've had...

Now that T61p has come out, has anyone able to figure out who will be manufacturers of the 15.4 WUXGA panel?

I am pretty sure its Samsung but I'm hoping it'll be offered with LG panels as well. LG is by far the better 15.4 WUXGA manufacturer based on specs and annecdotal evidence.

Lenovo will use whichever manufacturer's screen is cheaper. That's just the route that they take nowadays.

the LG and samsungs both have their short comings. the LG suffers from a sparkle effect and major light bleeding, but its brighter

the samsung has minor light bleed, but isnt as bright.

Not only is the samsung dimmer, but grainy, grayish whites, and very bad viewing angles (wsxga+).

Here are some specs for the 15.4 WUXGA panels from the two manufacturers:

    LG: LP154WU1
    Luminance [cd/㎡]: 210
    Contrast Ratio: 500:1
    Viewing Angle Vert/Hori: 100/130
    Source

    Samsung: LTN154U1
    Luminance [cd/㎡]: 175
    Contrast Ratio: 600:1
    Viewing Angle Vert/Hori: 100/130
    Source

From doing some google research, LG is anecdotally much better than the Samsung (brighter, crisper). Even the specs show that.

Well, the TABOOK claims the 185 nits and a contrast ratio of 500:1 for the WUXGA screen. Not sure what that circumstantial evidence points to, but it's something to consider.
