I'm about to buy a T61p but I'm afraid to pull the trigger because of the T61p having problems running games with using 2 DIMMS. I'm also a frequent gamer so I might buy the 1530 if I the T61p has problems. Has Levono fixed this problem or is it still on going?

    Thanks,
    rhettje

Sadly not that I've read (I keep up to date on these issues).

There remains no rhyme or reason to the issue - some systems are affected, others not. Really weird that Lenovo can't (won't ?) find a permanent solution to this problem.

Been running 2 dimms and playing bioshock, cod4, on my t61p purchased in Feb with no issues. Also running XP not Vista, which may have been the problem all along.

Has anyone reverted their T61p Vista to an xp to see if this issue was fixed by doing this?

I've been running 4GB in my XPed T61P for a few months, and my laptop has been pretty stable (so far), including gaming and overnight rendering.

I suspect that the RAM issues might be related to the added heat from refreshing the extra memory.

Also, Bioshock as well as the Second Life, are not widely regarded as rock-stable. Nvidia's driver support seems shaky for Bioshock, so they must be taunting the APIs.

Lenovo has, in fact, fixed this problem with a motherboard revision. New models have the fixed board - those who have the original mobo and experience the problem can get a replacement. If you are buying from a retailer, you need to check the manufacture date (after 3/20/08) - better to order direct from Lenovo. Check the Lenovo forum.

    Specifically,

The post from Mark_Lenovo explains the situation.

IMO...if your a gamer, buy the dell. you will be happier in the long run. nicer screen, more user friendly graphics setup and HDMI out. i have hands on with both of these machines, so im not shooing from the hip here. my users have many different machines but for gaming i vote 1530.

Thanks for all your input. Its great to know now that Levono fixed the DIMM issue and I guess I'll be ordering it tomorrow. I favored the T61p against the 1530 because I'll be moving the laptop alot during my travels. and i know that the T61p is built better than the 1530.

    Great choice IMO.

I havn't had any problems running 2x2GB of RAM.

    Good luck with your T61p.

Bump - Just wanted to bump this up in case some T61p owners haven't gotten word of the fix.
