Hi all,
I have a couple of issues with various noises coming from my laptop, wanted to see if they are normal or should i get calling lenovo. Its a 15.4 T61p.
a) The part below the keyboard on the right side has a bit of flex and makes a bit of a noise, when my hand rests in that area while typing.
b) The LCD. If I keep pressing along the edge of the screen on the left side at about 1/4 distance from the bottom there is a lot give in the case and it also makes a lot of noise. After that part it again feels sturdy.
c) Also I have a 100gb 7200 RPM hard drive which is very loud, which is kinda the sound made by a dying hard drive.
d) Lot of give in the casing above the DVD drive.
Are any of these things routine ? Though the thinkpad on the whole is good but i am really getting annoyed/worried by these creaking noises.
Thanks in advance

I've had none of those problems except for A.
What I did was tighten the screws on the bottom.
Creak begone!
That hard drive deal doesn't sound too good, mine seems fine but I've heard they'll send you a replacement if you call them up. -
How long have you had this laptop. If it is new give CS a call and get a replacment -

7200rpm laptop drives are generally quite loud, I wouldn't worry about that issue - but if it's really bothering you, consider switching to a 5400 (or, if you're a big spender, hybrid or solid state drive).
The other issues sound serious, though, and not due to normal operation. I'd contact lenovo as soon as you can, to make sure any problems are still covered under warranty. -

What BS. I had the Seagate 7200.2 120GB drive in my new HP. Replaced it with a Hitachi 7200 200GB because I wanted more space.
Neither makes a bit of noise - totally silent.
Lenovo has a lot of defective product problems these days. Make them fix it right, you'll have to fight to get them to fulfill their obligations, but do it. Hold their feet in the fire. -
I just spoke with lenovo and they have scheduled a depot service, hopefully things get fixed. The lenovo support leaves a lot to be desired however, the rep kinda sounded impatient. My recent interactions with dell tech support were a bit better. However what is any of your experiences with Lenovo depot service ?
Thanks for all your replies/suggestions. -
A) Yep, mine flexes around the right hand side under the keyboard a little bit as well. Called Lenovo and they said at any time during the warranty period I can have it "re-cased" if I feel it's a problem. Haven't done anything yet, it doesn't actually make any creaking noises.
B) I've heard lots of people complain about that, but mostly on the 14.1 display. I can confirm that my 14.1, on the left, about 2/3 - 3/4 or the way down, seems to have extra give. It makes a creaking noise when I squeeze around this area. Again, Lenovo offered to "re-case" the computer, but I'm really not sure it will help, so I haven't done so yet.
C) I have a 100 GB 7200 rpm Hitachi drive. It's whisper quiet. It makes no more noise than the 5400 rpm I replaced, so I would look into that.
D) Yep, definitely quite a bit of give on the right side of my case above the dvd writer. I assume this is because it just doesn't have much supporting it. If you pull out your dvd drive, you can see that there's not much supporting the plastic.
To be perfectly honest, none of these things bother me that much. I received the laptop on June 19, and to date, the computer itself runs flawlessly, and it's the fastest laptop i've owned, or had the chance to play with. Although some of these things bother me a little bit, nothing has gotten worse since I got it. As far as i'm concerned, as long as the computer works properly, I can overlook these things.
Good luck! -
First they say they'll pick it up. I had to contact them two more times to get this done, total of 7 days between informing them the item they delivered was defective and needed to be corrected.
Then they get the POS and say it's been damaged in transit and that I Have to pay to get the machine repaired. This is Lenovo's carrier, their account, their label and their schedule. WTF would I have to pay?
Ended in dispute with 4+ months of my time wasted and nothing to show for it. -
The hard drive is mounted in rubber, making its sound indistinct. Also there is active protection to halt reads and writes while moving the computer around.

Lenovo also told the same thing they will recase it, does it mean the entire case including the LCD case will be put in again ? Though most of these dont bug me a lot, I am not sure about the hard drive noise. However i want to get it fixed before things get worse.
I also have a new Inspiron which is much heavier and larger but the case is absolutely sturdy it wont make any noise, not that Inspiron matches upto TP in other areas. -
check this out...i had same problem and fixed it
