Tried a search, found nothing.
Which harddrives are lenovo using for T61p's?
specifically, for the 100GB 7200rpm option.
Hitachi 7K200 or the Seagate model?
-
-
They probably use both...what you get is just a matter of which company delivered their drives that morning.
7200RPM drives are made by a variety of vendors mcbrided. -
ok, thanks.
does anyone want to chime in as to which drive was in their machine? -
I've had both, the Seagate in the T60 and the Hitachi in the T61.
The Seagate is exceptionally quiet, but not as fast as the Hitachi.
It also produces an occasional "dropping marble sound". Didn't bother me at all.
The Hitachi is faster, no strange sounds, but runs louder overall.
Only noticeable in the quiet environment. -

Edited to add: 7200rpm Momentus 100Gb -
size and speed??
-
The (original) HD in my T61p is a Seagate Momentus 7200.1 100 GB model nummer ST910021AS. I have replaced the HD with a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 160 GB - with no problems what so ever.
-
I have the segate in my t61p 7200rpm 100gb, I hate this drive.. You can not work in peace and quite its makes so many sounds.. I had IBM replace it once and its as bad as the first. I am going to beg them to give me another brand or buy my own drive.

The HD that came with my T61p was a 7k100 from Hitachi. I replaced it with the 7k200 (which is actually a really nice HD in my opinion - fast and totally quiet!).
-
How was your 7K100 in comparison?
-
It was actually quite noisy for a laptop HD IMO.
Now with the new 7k200 I basically don't hear anything at all and it's definitely a tick faster in booting up or opening programs... -
so no reports of T61p's stocked with 7K200 drives??
-
My T61p came with a 7k100 Seagate, I first thought it was ok (except those occasional marble dropping noise) until I replaced it with a 7k200 Hitachi.
The 7k200 Hitachi is quiet! -
-
What are the running temperatures for the 7K200 Hitachi?
-
I have the hitachi 100gb 7200rpm
-
I called lenovo and asked them to replace my seagate with the hitachi, they said no problem and would over night it too me.. Seagate is junk.. the one they sent me to replace the first one i had sounds worse, a sweaking noise ontop to the marble drop and constant banging..
I am so happy to get the hitachi.. -
If they were using Hitachi 7K200 or Seagate 7200.2 drives they wouldn't be offering 100 gigs as the largest size cause thats just wasting the better HDDs in those series. Plus there is also no 60gig 7k200 or 7200.2 drive.
And then if you look at the actual specs on the web site:

The 7200.1 and the 7k100 do come in the same sizes though:
