What could this noise be? When I open my laptop's lid there is one or two pretty loud cracking/snapping noises that seem to come from the left side.

I can't see any damage or any cracking. Has anyone else had anything similar happen?

I read one case where someone heard cracking and then the entire hinge came off. I'm worried about that but I can't see anything bad yet...

    This happened to me.
Basically, the plastic on the hinge starts to seperate. Then, one day I closed it, opened it and the screen had completely seperated from the hinge! My laptop's on it's last legs now.
Be careful with it, I think it's inevitable wear and tear from overuse.

Hmm, I wonder if this is covered under warranty... seems like a defect. Can't be normal wear and tear since I hardly move my laptop. I think I've opened and closed it less than 25 times in the year I've had it.
