Have followed most of the threads on the topic of the WUXGA LCD panels that are shipping in the T61p notebooks.

I have the Samsung display. It's ok - brightness is fine (once you flick the BIOS setting - if you want full brightness on battery). However from everything I've read - and from finally putting my hands on one... I think the LG.Philip panel is probably better quality. I do notice 'some' light leakage - probably within spec though. And I also see about a 3 inch section on the right side of the display that is illuminated differently - a very faint artifact running vertically down the length of the display.

Also the response rate between the two panels is quite different. The LG/Philips has a 16ms response rate whereas the Samsung screen is 25ms.

Have taken a quick look at the maintenance manual for the T61p. Wondering if anyone out there can suggest what my chances are of being able to replace the panel myself - if I manage to buy/order a new LG.Philips panel. The manual recommends using a completely new set of screws for all FRU replacements. Not sure I'll have these....

Any words of advice / warning before I attempt this?

From what I have read about swapping screens in other laptops, it should be doable. For example, the UXGA IPS screen in R50p could be swapped into a QXGA screen (that although was an option, was not regularly available from IBM).

After a search it seems like member UltraCow did the swap with an LG from his T60p into T61p. More http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=191950
EDIT: that might have been a WSXGA+ though

Thanks - I've sent UltraCow a message asking for advice or pointers... fingers crossed. :)
