Hey guys,
I am a graphics designer and I am looking to replace my Dell Inspiron 8600. I researched quite a bit and the T61p really seems to fit my needs. It has a WUXGA screen like my old inspiron and a decent video card which are most important for me.
Now the thing that kinda withholds me from buying one right now is the screen quality. I have been reading pretty much all topics on this forum regarding the T61p and a lot of reviews. And it seems most people mark the screen quality as a con.
Is it really that bad? Has Lenovo made any improvements to their screens since they released the T61p? Is the problem the same for the WXGA+ and WUXGA screens since most topic on the forum are about the WXGA+ screens? Someone here have a WUXGA screen that can tell me something more about it?
Thanks a lot.

As a business laptop, the screen is matte. While it may not be glossy like many screens, it serves its purpose by being very easy to use in office lights. It doesn't give off glare as well. I use it for CAD and no issues here.

WUXGA is only 150 nit so it's rather dim, and the screen is not for everyone. WSXGA+ is the best one to go with.

If it helps any, here's a YouTube video of the quality.

I'm reading on various websites the WUXGA has 175 nits instead of 150 nits? Can anyone confirm this by any chance?
Would it be better to wait for the new T series or W series coming this June? -

When you're buying a notebook computer, it's best to wait as long as possible if you can. But other than that, if you need a notebook now, then buy it now. -
Me too, would like it more more brighter.
But you can setup Display (? or LCD something) through Bios fron Normal (default) to High, personally it does not bright enough even in High, and I have the concern of burning the LCD faster (but it is for office with 3 yrs accident warranty extra, hope it covers)
Shut down Notebook, power up, when posting .....if want to interrupt ....ThnikVantage, PRESS F1 key, then you will be in the Bios menu, look down to the Display ( or LCD ? forget) Then change from Normal to High.
Do not change other stuff if you not sure !
Good luck -
The High setting allows for maximum backlight brightness which will consume more battery power than the Normal setting which puts a limit on the maximum LCD backlight brightness, and therefore the rate at which the battery discharges since the LCD backlight is one of the highest consumers of power in a laptop. -
My screen ( WSXGA+) on my T61p is brighter than my old X31, and it looks great to me. People complain about the oddest things here. There was a post about how the right palmrest flex was UNACCEPTABLE!
to him because those Chinese had just cheapend the Thinkpads too much. Well I took a look at my old X31 last night, and it has just as much flex in the palmrest. So, take these posts with a grain of salt, you have no idea of the state of mind of the poster.
