    Hi,

I was just wondering what the idle temperatures of the fx 570 in ur T61p was... Mine is idling at around 60C, but at a room temp of about 33C... My processors and hard disks are around 46C and 42C respectively... Is this a problem? i am a little worried after nvidia announcing some of their recent chips are defective!

    Thanks!

That seems fine to me. Room temperature is very high at 91F or 33C. That is part of the reason your temperatures are warmer. My idle temp for my FX570m is 54C right now. My CPU is 46C. I am not sure what my hard drive is at. Probably similar to the CPU. I don't think you will experience any problems with your laptop, but you might want to check out the cooling guide for some ideas for a cooler laptop. I recommend a notebook cooler and using compressed air to blow the dust out of your fans.

Thanks Tim, I'll try and get myself a cooler for working on the desk... the arctic silver and canned air are not accessible to me as I'm in India right now.

That's great news about the temp - I was worried after I read an article about some nvidia graphic chips having thermal design issues... they haven't announced what chips yet.

And anyway let me know what your room temps are like... I'll try and test mine around the same temp...

    thanks!

My room temperature is about 27C or 81F right now. It's a little cooler than your room's temperature. What type of surface are you using your laptop on? A smooth hard surface is the best to maximize airflow. Don't use your laptop on a carpet or anything furry or fuzzy.

Ah, that's great... a 6C diff in room and graphic card temps. so i guess they'r pretty similar... and I was working on my bed when i got those temps. and also, sorry about the other post tim, I just wanted to get an idea of temps of the cards in other notebooks as well... specially the HP 8510w's fx570m which has it's core factory overclocked to 513Mhz Vs 475 of the T61p... and this one was just to make sure my temps were ok. But i apologize anyway.
    Thanks for ur readings... :D

You can also try undervolting the CPU, it might not drop much for idle temp, but it will drop a lot when the CPU is working, most people can drop at least 10c for their CPU peak temp. And since lower temp for the CPU, it will also help the GPU and notebook overall temp.

    :)

I've actually considered doing that stewie, but have to admit i'm very apprehensive. are there any permenant side effects? or will it's performance and stability be back to normal if i ever have to change back to the original voltage? also is it advisable from a hardware point of view? or is it best to leave the proc alone? does it void warranty or anythin like that? lol... i'm just feelin a lil paranoid... i mean it's working fine otherwise so just don wanna fool around with it unless it's making things a lot harder to live with!

your temps are fine, i wouldn't worry about anything. just buy a notebook cooler if you're really worried about something. and i guess you could open your laptop up and apply a thermal solution to your chips if you really wanted to, but that's probably the most difficult solution :D

Yep, my FX570M also idles at that temperature. I've always thought that it was kinda high, but it's never caused any problems thus far.

haha... thanks guys. I'm happy now. :D I might just try undervolting if I think it's getting too hot...

How do you undervolt a mobile GPU?
I've got my 8600GT (ddr2 mem) idling at 55C right now, but it's bloody hot here.

Undervolting is for the CPU not the GPU. You could underclock your GPU, but that is different from undervolting.

If you follow flipfire's guide that batman5315 linked you will not have any problems undervolting your CPU. I have undervolted mine, and I haven't had any problems. I recommend doing it if you want to have a cooler CPU while running at full capacity. Just to be clear this won't lower your GPU's temperature.
