    Hello all,

I just ordered a T61p 14" today. Unfortunately, through the course of reading some posts here I'm now a little confused about a few specifications.

Before I get into it, here's the T61p configuration I ordered:
I've removed the pricing as I purchased this laptop through my organization with discount.

Anyway - my question involves the 14" monitor and 570M.

    1. I've heard that the NIT rating on the 14" was only 150, and that it was pretty terrible. According to the posted Lenovo specs, nit is 200 now. Has Lenovo improved their 14" monitors? Does anyone have a recently built (2008) 14" T61p?

    2. I've also read that the data bus on the 570M was crippled; 64bit for the 14" version vs. 128bit on the 15.4" widescreen version. I called Lenovo tech support, and they did not have any information on this whatsoever so they couldn't clarify. Is there proof that the 14" has been hobbled in this respect?

These two points are important for me as I do alot of work requiring heavy OpenGL based apps in the field.

    Thanks.

I have not heard of the a 200 nit display for the 14" SXGA+, but it'd be great if it was true. My R60 has the 150 nit screen. Its dimness is really my only major complaint about it. It seems unusual that they would come out with a new screen in the middle of a product run, that's not to say it couldn't be true. Perhaps one of our more learned ThinkPads colleagues has some better information. Cranked up the screen looks pretty good, but if battery life is important to you and you're using it on the the lower brightness settings it can start to get tougher to use. Now if battery life isn't a huge issue that won't matter much.

I'm afraid it's true, the 14" 570m has the 64 bit bus. It's still one of the better notebook cards you're going to see on a 14" notebook, but it's the old portability vs performance debate one more time.

Yes, I saw the data sheet. I think it would be out of the ordinary they'd trot out a new screen during the middle of a product run. It seems more likely they'd bring it out with a new machine though it's not out of the question. I suspect it's a typo. It does happen from time to time.

How can I confirm the actual nits rating on my monitor once I receive the laptop? Also, how can I tell what manufacturer was used for the monitor? Would this be listed on the build sheet?

Thanks again for the quick reply.

They should have emailed you a list of the parts including the FRU# to the LCD. You can then look that FRU# in the tabook.

Hello, the only email I received was my confirmation sent by the person who took my order over the phone, and an email containing the list of components I selected which I posted in the first message of this thread. I have not received anything else at this time. How long after ordering should I be receiving this list?

    Also, what is tabook?

Edit: nevermind; found the Tabook. Still not sure about the additional emails though. Do I need to contact my sales rep, or is it still to early? I just placed my order 2 days ago.

    I called in before I ordered a T61p 15.4" model.
I spoke to a technician and he looked up the specs. He said that based on the information he had the T61p 14" model has a Intel GM965 Chipset.

http://www.intel.com Doesn't list alot of information about the GPU interface speed for the GM965 or the PM965.

I'm guessing that the GM965 can only do 64bit interface while the PM965 can do more.

Does the T61p 14" have the same GPU cooler as the T61p 15.4" below?
