Hi folks, this is my first post.

    Recently I ordered a T61p 14.1 SXGA+ 128mb FX 570m 2 gigs ram T7500 blah blah...

my question is: I have heard good things about the gaming power of the 256mb FX 570m card and was wondering how the 128mb version would stack up.

Will I be able to play CS source, WoW, Half Life 2, Oblivion etc at reasonable settings?

    Thanks in advance

You won't be able to max out the graphics, but you should get a very smooth 30+ fps at medium or even higher settings. Oblivion might be a little slower.

and of course, 30fps sucks for CS. you'd want to artificially pump it up to at least 60-100fps to be on par with everyone else.

better video card is worth it.

I have the 140m and I can get 70-80 fps with medium and up settings on CSS.

On Half-Life2 I can get near the same with medium and up settings.

    I think you're underestimating the 570m.

    thanks for everyone who's replied.

I'm really only looking for "playable" settings at the moment.

I hear games will play better with the installation of GeForce drivers.
Does anyone have any more information on this?

First of all, GeForce drivers are required in order to use your GPU. Meaning, yes drivers = FX 570m, no drivers = Intel Gfx whatever Accelerator whatever.

Second of all, yes, you guys are underestimating the FX 570m, which is essentially a 8600GT GDDR3.

The Apple forum has a comprehensive thread on the performance of the 128 mb 8600GT GDDR3. The 570M is at least equal or better to the 8600GT for sake of comparison.

I'd expect medium-high settings for 1400x1050 and highest settings at 1024x768 resolutions for gaming.

You're off. All graphics accelerators require drivers, whether they're Intel or Nvidia. What he is asking is if using GeForce drivers instead of FX 570m (same as using Radeon drivers instead of FireGL drivers) would increase performance to which the answer is yes.
