I got an LG-Philips. My ship date was 9/7.
-
1. 9/5
2. LG
Very nice screen, minimal bleeding (faint line at the very bottom only noticeable in a dark room) -
Ship date 9/2
LG screen.
I'm impressed with the brightness, viewing angles and clarity. I just got one stuck red pixel on the right side of my screen. Doesn't bother me when I'm gaming or working on something... but.. knowing its there... ya know? -
ordered 9/4 and 9/7 both Samsungs
-
For T60 with WSXGA+, anyone know what screen FRU part # 13N7020 would be?
-
Ship date: 8/25
LG screen.
Screen is much brighter on my T61P than it is my T42P. Colors are good, no dead pixels, and very little light bleed (only noticeable in a dark room). -
Shipped 9/8
LG screen.
This screen is very nice. Almost no light leakage. One dead pixel though in the middle of the screen. :/
Tim -
Shipped 9/5
LG
I have a quick question how do i identify dead pixels ? use a black background like a screen saver and see if i have any odd 'spots' on the screen ?
Also i am not sure if my screen has leakage ? what is the best way to make sure ?
otherwise the laptop rockx.
Thanks -
My advice to you is that if you have no reason to suspect there is something wrong with your screen, don't go looking for backlight bleeding/leakage or dead/stuck pixels. Do you really want to know if they are there if you can't even notice them after using the computer? Maybe its better not to know? Finding either of these things doesn't mean you get a warranty replacement. Your choice, read below if you want to know:
Dead/stuck pixels:
Read what the guy says then try the tests:
http://www.gdargaud.net/Hack/DeadPixels.html
Backlight bleeding:
Go to your windows screen saver settings and select "blank" then click "preview." That will put an all black screen on your computer your backlight bleeding will appear as the non-black areas on the edge(s) and/or corners of the screen. -
thanks a lot for the reply and the links. I just wanted to make sure that things are all right ...... I have found no dead pixels
but i am not sure about the leakage part.... this is what i did
a) put the blank screen as my screensaver.
b) turned of all the lights
The LCD is not perfectly dark it has some background light but is evenly spread i dont see it at any particular location on the screen ? Is this normal ? or do i just have a screen which doesnt leak but pours light
I will try to take a pic or two and put them in here. -
Oops, mine is Z series. You can delete my vote.

LG shipped 8/31

It looks like those of you who ordered a T61p 15.4 WSXGA+ after September 4 have been getting Samsungs panels. This is not good. I hope the trend reverses. I ordered on September 13. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for an LG-Philips panel.
-
Ordered mine on the 9th, and it looks like from the parts lookup that it will be the Samsung wsxga+ screen.
What makes the Samsung worse than the LG? Graininess, Dead Pixels, Brightness, Leakage? -
Also, it was very dim. -
Darn, I ordered on 9/13. Hope I can get an LG.
-
-
-
Is there anyone who ordered a T61p 15.4 WSXGA+ after September 4 who got the LG-Philips?
-
-
Thanks MEK. Yeah, it looks like September 4 was the transition point. It seems like every one who ordered after that date are receiving Samsung panels. If I receive a unit with a Samsung screen, I'm sending it back. I keep laptops for years I don't want to deal with a subpar screen during that time.

Got my T61 15.4" WSXGA+ a few days ago. I used to be a sucker for high resolution and specifically wanted this screen (but it turned out to be a mistake). I also have a T60 14" SXGA+ from work. Always thought that T60 was a neat small package (relatively, of course), Well, the new T61 is a lot larger, thicker and heavier. What a behemoth! It may be sturdier with the rollcage, etc. but for me the physical size of the notebook was an unpleasant surprise. The screen is much brighter than the one in T60 which is about a year old. Looking at both side by side, T61 screen has a lot more contrast and better black levels. Viewing angle is pretty narrow and colors seem to shift slightly with head movement, but I expected this (I have a 20" NEC s-IPS monitor for real Photoshop work). Back to T61, the pixel pitch is even smaller than on T60 SXGA+ and small fonts are hard to read. I ended up increasing font size in Windows to 140% to get about the same reading experience as T60 which is set up with 120% "large" fonts. I am also finding that ultra-high contrast of the new display causes more eye strain, and for some reason ClearType setting is not as effective as it is on the lower contrast T60 screen. So if I were to do it again I would go for 14" widescreen (now that 4:5 is almost impossible to find) and a 1280x800 resolution.

1. Shipped 9/8
2. LG Screen
I really like the screen on the T61 WSXGA+ that I received. I had initially been concerned that the brightness was not going to be that great, but I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.
I have a DELL 2001FP (I believe thats the model) at work and the T61 is brighter and sharper than the DELL desktop flat panel. A very nice surprise indeed. -
Thank you ooxxoo, it's hard enough when youre just trying to get information and make a decision. Some people exaggerate screen issues to no end.
With really bad camera skills, you can easily go from post to post and declare that you have a 'top of the line T61P' defective machine. This was taken with the default settings on my camera:
[/IMG]
But it really doesn't look that bad. If I adjust my exposure settings, I can make an image that almost, but not quite, looks closer to what it really is:

I'm just amazed that some people are so deluded they go out of their way to try to misinform others. -
heh ya those overexposed icons are a dead giveaway.

My T61p wsxga+ just came in this morning...the Samsung display seems to be ok, a little bit of leakage at the bottom, but only really noticeable on a solid black screen...with a taskbar across the bottom you really don't notice anything.
I don't have any point of reference to compare to the LG screen.
No dead pixels that I have noticed yet, but I haven't looked very hard.
I did notice a "pool ripple" spot about halfway from top to bottom and a quarter of the screen from the left (at about 400,500). The kind of thing that you see when you push on the screen (front or back), except it is visible with even the slightest vibration without touching anything...anyone see or heard of something like this?
Haven't had a chance to search the forums yet, and not sure what to even call this issue, so any links or suggestions would be welcome.

My T61p looks like it will have a Samsung screen so I'll let everyone know how it is.
EDIT: Is it where the red "nipple" is at on the keyboard when you close the laptop? I've heard of that rubbing against the screen when it is closed. -
No, the nipple is much closer to the center of the screen...this point is about half way between the left edge and the center. I will probably call them about it in a bit.
If I have the onsite warranty option, they will send someone out to fix it right? I really don't want to send it back to them. -
So the LG screen is better? If I order a T61p in the next few days, what are the chances of me getting a LG screen? Is there any way to check during my order?
-
There really isn't a way to check for the screen manufacturer until the order ships from Lenovo and you get the serial number. As of September 5, it looks like people have been receiving Samsung panels. I'm not sure who long this will last. -
ship date:9-2-07
manufacturer: LG-Phillips -
Hope the after 9/4 thing is just a coincidence, thinking about ordering a WSXGA+ over my current WUXGA order, but if i know it's going to be Samsung, i rather just take my chances.
-
Good news guys. I placed an order on Sept 13 and my order shipped last night. I was finally able to do a parts lookup for my LCD panel. I am getting:
42T0422 42T0423 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU
This should be the LG-Philips panel! As soon as I get my system next week, I will use PC Wizard to verify this. But for now, it looks like this new wave of T61p WSXGA+ shipments have LG-Philips panels. For those of you who just got shipping confirmations today, please verify this by doing a parts lookup. -
ordered: 9/10, ESD: 9/27
shipped: 9/20
T61p T7300
15.4 WSXGA+ LG & NMB kb -
15.4 INCH LCD FRU 42T0423 - LG
KEYBOARD FRU 42T3143 - NMB
Looks like a great batch so far -
Wow, very excited to reorder tomorrow then, getting a LG and NMB keyboard would be awesome!
-
well it might not be a real NMB kb as I've heard some chiconys have rebranded as NMB. At any rate won't know for sure till its delivered and I take a peek under the keys and/or run PC Wizard on it.
-
I ordered mine 2 days ago, but my order still says "in process". Is that normal?
I'm anxious to find out what screen and keyboard I get. This will be my first ever laptop, it better not suck!
I have been reading some disturbing things on here about grainy screens, light leakage, dead pixels, and the T61 models being really bulky and large. I'm starting to worry I might have made a bad decision
It was between this and a Sager and I thought the Thinkpad would be a safer bet. I hope I wasn't wrong. I also considered Dell but every Dell I have ever used felt cheap and flimsy...just my opinion... -
Ordered 9/7, shipped 9/20. LCD Panel is LG-Philips.
-
Hi ,
It is possible to measure height and length of a working part of the WSXGA+ ?
Thanks -
As for keyboards... if this is your first IBM/Lenovo it'll be better than every other keyboard you've used so don't worry about it. -
Ordered on the 20th, Shipped on the 22nd.
42T0422 42T0423 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES
Hell yea. -
Are you FREAKIN kidding me?
When you placed your order what did it say for estimated ship date?
I ordered on the 19th and it said estimated ship date was October 8th! Also, there was a small problem with my order, my credit card was declined. I called my bank and got them to accept the charge, then a Lenovo rep ran my card again and it was accepted. However, a rep in a different department claimed my card was still declined, and kept trying to run it. THEN my bank declined THOSE charges because they were duplicates, the charge already accepted! Now Lenovo credit department still thinks my card was declined even though the charge is right there showing up on my account balance, and I can't get the bastards to ship me my damn laptop!!!!I couldn't even get through to them on Friday, I was trying to call all day, I spent literally hours trying to get through to their credit department (DURING normal business hours when they are open, mind you). All I got all day was that message that basically says, "Sorry, we are too busy, leave a message!" then it hangs up on you. I did leave a message but of course, no one called me back.
I'll try to sort them out tomorrow, I am tempted to cancel the order and tell my credit card to refuse the charge, then just start over with a new order. Lenovo's call centers are such a mess!
Oops anyway I didn't mean to get off topic, what I am wondering is, do you think they are shipping only LG screens now? I hope so. If there are still Samsungs going out, I will DEFINITELY cancel my order and wait it out. -
My ESD was October 10th.

I got 42T0422 42T0423, so it is the LG Phillips? It is grainy and colors are washed out. It looks like the software settings are responsible for the color issues, the Nvidia panel is not very flexible. All my previous laptops even those 10 years ago had a better screen. As consolation I have an awesome 226BW external monitor which makes things much better at the office.
Have any of you found workarounds to alleviate these issues? -
I did the parts lookup and it says it can't find it. What am I doing wrong? I have the serial number and isn't the machine type = 6459 for the T61p?
Help!
