Very impressed with my Samsung panel. Although I was a bit worried at first considering how many people stated "Not very bright" or "Light leakage"... You can't really tell unless you're on a mission to find either of them.

i also have the Samsung LTN154U2-L05 WUXGA and either im a visual retard or this is the best screen I have ever seen and I have been building and selling computers for over 15 years. I picked mine up on about 12/05/07 and I believe the MFG date on box was 11/2007. I was mildly perturbed to read the HP owner had a -07 revision, which i am convinced means he has a better updated version. hahahahah

I do not see any dead pixels, nor any 'leakage', but i also know not to go looking for them because if i find them i will not ever be to 'un-notice' them and it would drive me crazy.

I run mine at native res and black are very blacks and white look perfect. Closest comparison I could come up with with be an old Viewsonic 21" CRT which was, previous to this, the finest image quality I had ever seen.

Also just received my T61p - with an LTN154U2-L05 Samsung display.

Certainly not seeing the significant light leakages that other people are reporting. Overall I'm pleased with the display (and in love with the T61p) - although I'm tempted to order the LG screen, and keep the Samsung as a spare.

Have also changed Windows Vista DPI to a custom DPI of 145 - which hits the sweet for text and icon sizes.

Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Personalization (Adjust font size DPI)

All said, I'm surprised no one has commented on the big difference in response rates between the two screens. LG is 16ms, and Samsung is 25ms!

Not yet - but I'm seriously considering it. I think the Samsung display is ok although I do see 'some' leakage' and a slightly different brightness on the right side of the pane - so I'm guessing that the LG/Philips is a better quality panel. There are also some important differences in the spec.... response rate for a starter.. the LG/Philips has a 16ms response rate whereas the Samsung screen is 25ms.

    http://www.lgphilips-lcd.com/homeContain/jsp/eng/prd/prd300_j_e.jsp - look up the LP154WU1

    http://www.samsung.com/global/busin...pper_fmly_id=601&fmly_id=611&partnum=LTN154U1

Have taken a quick look at the maintenance manual for the T61p. Wondering what my changes are of replacing this myself if I'm able to buy an LG panel. Will probably post to another thread on the topic to see what others think.

I just found out that my T61p ordered on 2/29 shipped with ... "42T0360 42T0361 15.4 INCH LCD DISPLAY FRU YES"... LG!!!

Was anybody else so lucky recently? I feel like I have won a lottery. :)

I don't think you would succeed with requesting a specific screen. However, you can always try your luck and if that doesn't work out you can just buy the LG screen yourself and exchange it (voids your warranty, of course).

Alternatively, you can just go for the standard screen and instead of putting $150 towards the upgrade you can just upgrade it yourself for little more than $150 (voids your warranty).

I have just gotten the t61p with LG.Philips screen and the screen is just AWESOME! no complaints for me regarding the screen quality... WUXGA resolution is the ideal for me!!!

I don't have that much experience in different screens... but the colors and contrast and brightness and sharpness on my LG is just excellent. I hope I never have to go back to any lower resolution laptop. This is just awesome.

From those of you who ordered in 2008, when did you order and what WUXGA screen did you get? Me: 2/29 and LG.Philips.

When I got my T61p in may, it was equiped with Samsung LTN154U2-L05. This panel really stinks :very grainy, poor contrast, low brightness, washed out colore. I never ever see such poor display. It makes me sick when I compare my new T61p with my *old* T60p (14" SXGA+).

So, I order an LG/Philips LP154WU1 panel and I got it today. It takes me 20 minutes to switch. Now, my T60p looks far better than my T60p. The LP154WU1 is not grainy, black are far darker, white is pure, contrast is far higher, color a more crisp and it's brighter.

It really worth to switch. So now, I'am very happy with my T61p.

PS : The LP154WU1 is far more easy to read than the LTN154U2.

    Dear Pascal_TTH

How were you able to order the LG/Philips LP154WU1 panel - where did you order it from? I tried contacting LG about this panel but I didn't get a reply.

And you didn't find it that difficult to change the panel on your own?

    Hi Waters99,

I order it in France from a LCD panel seller. LG won't answer to any request. They did not sold to end users. I pay 300 € for a brand new LP154WU1 mat. You can buy a LP154WU1 from lcds4less or any world wide shipping online panel seller. Grab the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your T61 and read about how to open the lid to change the panel.

I'am very common with laptop hardware so it was really easy to swap.

    Hi Pascal_TTH

Do you think this is something a first-timer could do - with a careful reading of the service manual? I'm a little nervous about cracking open my Thinkpad - although usually pretty handy with a screwdriver.

I noticed that the service manual recommends replacing all screws with a new set of screws on reassembly. Did you do this?

Any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated.

If you have already mount your own desktop or make some RC model, it's easy. ;) I guy form my website forum break the panel from his Asus laptop. He makes the panel swap by his own. It was the first time...

Use the same screw, you don't need new ones. Take the good screwdrives not to damage the head of the screws.

If you read the HMM, you can do it your self. Some advises :
    - work on a desktop very clean not to scratch any part
    - take some small bag to put the screw
    - do it when you got 2 hours of free time (no phone, no friend, not cat...)
    - have an other computer to read HMM or do some search on internet
    - take your time.
    - never use (a lot of) strong to unmount part. If it does not come out, check why.
    - look carfully before acting
    - ldcs4less have a generic guide : How to change my panel (it helps to read it)

    Remove battery, unplug laptop
Remove with a cutter blade the 5 stickers to seen the 5 screen screws.
Unscrew them. Look in HMM how to get the cover up. Watch the arrow, they always tell how to handle part. Cover is easy to get out.
Front bezel is hard to remove. There are numerous *clips* to fix it to the screen rollcage. Take care when you remove with cover hocks. There is double sided tape and bezel is a bit pasted on the screen.
You have for screw, on in each corner to remove the TFT panel. Place a soft clothe on the keybord so if the panel gets off and you can't catch it, it wont be damaged. Unscrew and the panel is free. Take care now !!! On the back, there is the data connector and it's aslo connecter to the Thinklight. Remove the Thinklight led from the rollcage. Now, panel may fall from his place. You can access to the back of the panel. Untape and remove the data connector (see HMM). Unplug the inverter cable. Remove the metalic arms from the Lenovo panel, screw them on the new. Don't forget to place the black rubbber (4 on my panel) from the old screen on the new (see HMM). Connect the data cable and the inverter to the new panel. Plug the laptop and set it on to see if panel work. Turn it off. Take the date connector. Do the rest of the job backward.
Take care when you fix the bezel back to attach all *clips*. Make really sure all *clips* are fixed specialy those a the botom of the screen (otherwide, cover won't get in place). Close the lid to see those from the bottom. Replace the cover, it will *clips* on bezel. Screw it. Replace screw cover.

    You have done it.

PS : Sorry, I don't speak english well enough to explain it better. But with those advise and HMM, you can do it.

That's a great reply - thanks very much for this. I think I'll brave it - and order the panel from LCD4Less.

    Thanks again

Curious what the T500 and W500 are going to use. The new LCD panel part number listed in the HMM no longer matches the T61p WUXGA panels. Maybe they finally went with something better?
