I'm using T61p w/ 15.4'' and Quadro FX 256MB, and planning to buy a spare AC adapter on the go. So light one would be better.
I've searched on Lenovo accessorary sites. Although there was no T61p model exactly, anway I've selected with model #6459, which is T61p 15.4'' model.
But, I've found 65W adapter as well: Linke here.
I don't care about the speed of recharging according to 65W or 90W adapter. I just want to know if there would be any problem due to 65W adapter. Since I would never use my laptop with only AC adapter (battery will always be on my laptop), I think that 65W power would be OK even if heavy load programms may cause power shortage; battery can still supply enoguh power.
Does Lenovo *officialy* recommend this 65W AC adapter for T61p 15.4 inch model?![]()
Thanks,
MJ
p.s. Is there any way to search within only Lenovo/IBM threads?

Get a 90W.
It should charge faster.

If the laptops are off, there won't be a significant difference in terms of charging time.

I have heard of problems with the 65W adapter and the newer thinkpads. Best to get the 90 really. Try and search for these problems I'm talking about. They were talked about recently. Or maybe Stallen will chime in.

Personally I have a 120W Kensington adapter that I use as a spare. I would stick with a 90W or greater AC adapter. That little 65W adapter will get very hot after awhile. It is just to much work for the 65W adapter to meet the demands of a T61P. -

P.S why pay retail ?
this seller has original IBM's for really great prices:

I actually ordered one the same day i posted and just received it (FAST).
it has IBM all over it. not lenovo. (the cable with the laptop jack is a little short, but thats ok.)
I did a test however... i attached a KILL-A-WATT to measure the wattage....
When it was charging and at full throttle it was drawing 75W.
So definitely anything above 60W would help speed up charging, maybe CPU speed.

The Quadro FX 570M is rated at 35w, so is the CPU. That's already 70w, not to mention the power consumed by the northbridge chipset, memory, HDD, wireless, bluetooth, etc.
So 90w adapter is necessary and you will have some problem if you only get the 65w one. You probably will be fine when just surfing the internet, but you will have a good chance to damage your machine when both the CPU and graphics card is at loaded(e.g. playing 3D games or watching HD video). -
You can start a fire if you use the 65W adapter with this laptop. Don't try it!
-
I dont think you can start a fire, it won't overload, there's should be some protection.

It should have come with a 90W, I think.

There are two safer ways to reduce weight:
1) Smaller battery
2) Remove the optical drive and put in a travel bezel -
The optical drive will also, but it weighs next to nothing. -
I have used a 65W adapter with my 15" T60P for a year and a half with no problems. If the adapter can not supply enough current you will see the battery discharging instead of charging (never happened to me even with a external USB hard disk). The worst thing you will do is burn out the adapter.

Having the same settings on my notebook, and just by replacing the AC power adapter, I got different results.
With the small format (65W) AC power adapter I could only get 66% of the Maximum CPU Frequency (a mere 1.2 GHz), while using the 90W AC power adapter I was able to get full performance 100% (1.8 GHz) - no battery attached.
