    Vista 32 - t61p The fan is driving me crazy.

    I've tried multitudes of power configurations. When I run on AC the fan is
    constantly on. Switch to battery and the notebook is silent.

    I purchased this because I work in a very quiet enviroment and want no fan noise.

    Any special setting or advice? I 've tried so many things, I must be missing something simple.

    Maybe it is on max performance power scheme under AC?
    On an Acer, I've seen an option for "always-on fan" don't know if TP has it...
    Maybe it has something to do with the BIOS?

    You can also try programs like SpeedFan

    the default thinkpad fan settings are way overcompensated, i had the same problem i dl'd TPFANCONTROL, works perfect my fan is off 80% of the time, and boosts to full playing games, highly recommended program, but the settings can be kinda hard to figure out at first, here are my settings if your want them, this is for my X61, im pretty sure these will work good for a T61, if im wrong someone correct me

    these are for the fancontrol.ini file in the tpfancontrol directory

    Active=2
    Cycle=5
    MinimizeToSysTray=1
    MinimizeOnClose=1

    I second the recommendation for TP Fan Control, it's a great program that has made the noise level on my T60 something I'm actually pretty happy with (although it could be better if Lenovo would put back the older temp thresholds in the BIOS). Just make sure you grab the latest version from HERE as there have been a couple of bugs fixed since the version that you'll currently find on SourceForge (0.18 is what is listed there).

    Have fun and if you have any questions about how to use it, please let us know as it's not the most user friendly app at first glance, but once you figure it out, it's very powerful. :)
