    Hi,

My thinkpad battery is dead and i've been using it in plugged in for a while now. I want to get a replacement - and i'm looking at this particular one -

    Amazon.com: AGPtek Hi-Capacity 7200mAh 9 cells Replacement Li-ion…

First of all, is it safe to use such non branded batteries?

Secondly, will this battery fit a T61p? It doesn't mention T61p on the page, but does mention T60p which uses an identical battery right? i just want to make sure...

    Thanks!
    Carthik

Probably worth your time to look at outlet.lenovo.com. I'm pretty sure they have batteries for that computer right now. I've heard of aftermarket batteries having issues before in Thinkpads, and I know first hand how much worse they are than factory batteries in cameras.

    nothing there... :(

i've heard that there are some really fake ones, basically made in warehouses without any quality checking and then ones like agptek that are companies with reasonable quality standards that manufacture replacement batteries such as these...

anyone have any experience with non genuine replacement thinkpad batteries??

Hit the outlet. The nine-cell is going for $44. The downside is the 90 day warranty, but the one I got looked and performed like new.

i will much prefer to buy the outlet battery than a compatible batteries. Even some of the alright compatible battery name brand could be a fake.

It says refurbished... does that mean only the casing was used? or have the cells been subjected to a few cycles as well? is it ok to use used batteries??

as far as i know, the batteries people receive have zero cycles on it, and they don't use any sign of it been used.

For whatever reason they are sold new or used, i would still go with the OEM battery especially given that the price is so darn cheap.

It is privilege only bestowed to the US market, so why not use it to the fullest. if this was available in Australia, i would snap it up without any hesitation.

Given how many reports of explosion and fire in OEM battery, there is even higher chance of that happening in the generic battery. And there are people whom got seriously wounded by lithium ion battery explosion, when they bought the generic batteries.
