I had the max in my t61p I could get. I understand that while I was in the hospital for the last year that DDR2 has gone up by a factor of 2 in capacity.
Will I have to get all new memory for it? How is it supplied? Do I order to new
memory from Lenovo? In what form?

I don't know that it went up, but the max information was outdated. You can order from Lenovo if you like paying a lot more. Do you think you need to upgrade?

Would you mind giving me some info...which as I tell peops in the the hospital - go hand in hand with the power to make a decision. Is there a general purpose memory card? I don't know because I have made all lenovo purchases on my notebook.
I forgot to mention, I signed a lease today. I'll be out soon hopefully within the week. I may be a little scarcer for a while while i am moving but I'll be back as soon as I can.
Of course I have to go first. I truly don't like this place.

I can justify a lot if I want something, but I try not to be greedy. My point being unless you're doing very memory intensive stuff, which maybe you are I don't know, dropping $250 to upgrade to 8GB when you've already got 4GB if you don't need it seems frivolous.

I was just reading around on the net and apparently it's as simple as literally changing the chips on the memory cards.....

I also found a net addresss for the memory:
