Hello All. Just curious if anyone has been able to find a fan control for the T61p that will run in 64-bit? I haven't been able to find one as of yet but want to keep my undervolted processor even more cool by having fans run at high on AC power but have them off on battery (my processor is set to downclock to 1.4GHz when on battery power using RMClock). BIOS will only let me select a profile and not an actual fan setting, which is annoying. On AC power my processor is constantly at full load and as they say, heat is the enemy.
Thanks all and have a great day.

I don't think having your fan run on high all the time while it's on AC is a good idea for that fan - you'll only wear it out quickly. If you let the motherboard control the fan, how hot does it get? Unless your CPU is excessively hot (and it shouldn't be, unless your vents are blocked, for example), running the fan on high isn't going to help anything. I'm sure the CPU's lifespan will outlast all the other components in your laptop. Plus, the 45nm CPU + undervolting will definitely keep things cool.

Hey, thanks for the reply. Yeah, it does run relatively cool as it is, but my main concern is with the graphics card. Although the cores run at about 57 under full load, my graphics card heats up to about 62 when doing nothing (the CPU is doing pure calculations, not gaming). I know on the T61p, the CPU and graphics card share a heatsink so I am thinking that with the fan on high (it is about 50% of the time as is) it will help to keep it all ice cold
. And also, it's mainly a personal choice. I had my fan on full on my D610 for two and a half years and no issues. I have the three year warranty too, so if my fan dies, they'll replace it anyways.

Side note, can you undervolt a graphics card? I know you can underclock it. Don't think you can but just curious hehehe

Have you considered Speedfan?
It's one of the best packages for fan control. -
tpfancontrol
Been running this for months on Vista Ult x64 with no issues at all.
I find the default fan a bit over aggressive in 2d mode(desktop) . tpfancontrol managed to fix that for me plus it gives me better control over temps when I'm pushing the card. All the settings are editable in the ini file. -

when i play games the temperature reaaches 59 bothr the cpu and the gpu.isnt that harmfull or is it in the ok range?

In cpu intensive apps that don't stress gpu, the max I seen for the cpu is 65C. For fancontrol, I have mine off at 47, lowest fan on at 55. Kicks it up few notches (not max) at 63. Highest fan setting at 71. Bios mode at 80.
