Can someone please recommend a pimpin gaming driver to put in my soon to arrive T61p with a Quadro 570.

    I play:

All steam games (CS:S, Half Life 2)
    WoW
    CRYSYS!
    Battlefield 2 (and 2142)
    Assassin's Creed
    Gears of War :)

    Thanks!

since assassin's creed, gears of war, and crysis aren't out yet, its basically certain that no driver available today will be a good match for any of those 3 games.

Source games, Battlefield 2/2142 and WoW should run fine on basically any recent driver. the manufacturer supplied one should even work fine.

That would be the latest one... And if you have any further questions you should try posting on their forums in regards to your specific needs. Certain drivers perform better in different areas and alot of the posters there can better explain what revision number you should install.

It's almost impossible to get a "which one" answer from anyone there. I tried awhile back. There is a "which driver" sticky, but unfortunately it hasn't been updated in about a year so it's worthless.

Which is why sometimes you got to go with the "latest one". Using non-standard driver .inf files is a trial-n-error process anyway so until he comes across a poster who:

    1. Actually has their T61p
    2. Banked a few hours in game trials and frame rate tests (hopefully with games that *have* been released for the PC.)

the best advice anyone can really give him is: "Try the latest one and tell us how it performs."

Do not get involved in the "driver xxx.xx is 3% faster in game xyz" threads over there. Just got for the latest driver listed on the front page, those will typically be the best.

    OK... this is helpful. thanks.

Can you just tell me what is appropriate for laptops? Meaning... there are 100.XX series, 150.XX series, and 160.XX series. I'm not sure what is the difference. I think that is what is throwing me.

The whole purpose of that site is drivers for laptops. Personally I am using the 162.50 drivers right now on Vista 32 bit. The 162.50s are new WHQL drivers for the Quadro cards. Works great on my 8400M GS in a Dell. There is a certain ammount of trial and error with the drivers, however its nothing complicated. People have been modifying .INF files for years.

Ok i guess that was silly when I said "for laptops". Then I guess I should just ask. What is the diff between each series?
