    Hey,
When I close the lid to my t61p, if the speakers are at 15 or higher and the mic is on, there will be a very loud high pitched sound coming from the speakers. I know this has to do with interference between the mic and the speakers but this never happened to my t60p and was wondering if anyone else with a t61p notices this. Is there some kind of shielding missing/what can i do to stop this besides having to turn off my mic.
    Thanks.

What you are describing sounds like normal, ordinary mic feedback.

So just like with any other amplified mic setup, either turn down the speaker volume when the mic is active, turn down the gain on the mic or just mute the mic.

I know its normal mic feedfack, but like I said, it never happened on my t60p but is occurring on my t61p, I dont see why it would change.

Note the distance between the speakers and the mic on each of your ThinkPads. Naturally, the speakers are located a differently on 14", 15" and 15.4" WS models.

That said, I do get mic feedback on my 15.4" WS T60 if I crank up the speaker volume and mic gain. NBD considering I get it on other non-TP laptops, too.

Hib You may be getting this from our mic which may be on and set to boast.
There is a mic boost checkbox under the MIC volume slider in the Windows volume control. If you see the volume control in the system tray double click it and it will open up the full volume control panel.

It if isn't there got to Start > Control Panel > Sound And Audio Devices > Voice tab. Under "Voice recording" click on the "Advanced" button and it will place a new button on the MIC volume control called Advanced. When you click on that button you will see a checkbox for "Microphone +20db boost". Checking it will give the Mic a boost in ALL applications.

If the volume control isn't visible in the system tray you can put it there by checking the "Place volime icon in the taskbar" checkbox, which is on the "Volume" tab of "Soune and Audio Devices".
