Hi. I have notebook like in topic. (c2d 2.2, FX 570 256mb) My System is Vista Ultimate 32. I have problems with some games. Age of Empires III, Heroes V, Splinter Cell, NFS ProStreet and others. When I play these games I sometimes have bluescreen and always system hungs up. I do not know why. I've updated bios ver to the newest. I have even installed modified drivers from laptopvideo2go. The problems return always. Is it problem with Quadro graphics (video card does not support those games?) or is it problem with games under vista? I'd forget do add. I have always put settings on high level with high res.
I heard Heroes V has got problems with playing on laptops but i do not know it is true.
ps - sorry for my language...i'm from Poland that doesn't explain me![]()
-
which laptopvideo2go drivers are u using
-
Try putting on a lower resolution and a lower level?
-
I tried lower settings in Heroes V and there is the same problem. I installed stable driver, 169.09. The same problem like on lenovo's drivers.
-
doesn't sound good at all
glad i didn't get the t61p
i can play nfs pro st on my t61 with small resolution at medium -
The stock Quaddo drivers seem lacking in capability. Some of the modded .inf drivers might not be ready for prime time.
I might try another of the modded drivers, make sure the laptop is getting air, make sure you are not overclocking the video chip, and make sure you have less than 4GB of ram because some people have mentioned things about that.
I've been using one of the modded drivers for about three months, playing Thief 3, and Doom 3, (and T2) The only crashy game i've found on my machine is Second life, which seems to be crashy on everyone's machines. -
I have only crashed once, and thats when I tried 8x antialiasing in COD4...
Otherwise the FX570m for me is a great card. -
Reveal - you didn't give specs for your system, but if you have both ram slots populated (2 dimm chips) you might be experiencing the very common bsod/hardware problem with FX570m and 2 memory chips. See this rather long thread for details: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=47755. Apparently it requires a motherboard replacement to fix...

Reveal,
Greetings to Poland!
Yes, bsodder and his thread are correct for a small percentage of the T61p PCs, they require a motherboard replacement.
Please post your full PC specs including the RAM usage. If you take one of the two RAMs out and your PC does not crash, you probably have the problem in the thread.
Lenovo is aware of the problem and will replace the mobo but I assume in Poland you would be without a PC for a while.
Your T61p should play all those games.
Good luck! -
I have 2x1gb . that's my config.

i did not overclock anything.
I have updated bios. The newest bios probably solves problem with ram and nvidia chip's hunging up system. I can not understund "motherboard replacement"...You mean....new motherboard is required? i can add... not all games hung up. Only those which i wrote you.
ps - core temps (cpu and gpu under stress) are normal. I play other games on high level setting with high resolution and nothing wrong happens
ps2 - I even ran 3dmark06 on default settings and vista doesn't hung up.
I do not know how to write in english becausee...when system hungs up for expamle under aoe III or other games....and I'm going to see vista's desktop (alt+tab or alt+f4) i have message in menu bar which sounds "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered"
look at this. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=198793&page=3&highlight=new+bios
some guy tested new bios and wrote in this forum...new bios does not fix problem with nvidia 570's hung system

ReVeal,
Your English is very good.
And, some of your data results are also good.
Especially 3DMark06. By the way, what was your 3DMark score?
The latest BIOS fixed some of the PC problems ... not all.
Some...of the mobos seemed to be bad. The following tests might tell for you:
...download the BioShock demo (free) and see if you can run it with no problem. This test is harder than the 3DMark06
...if it passes, you are probably ok....with the motherboard. Then, you might have "normal" problems with either the game itself...and/or....with Vista.
...if it fails, take out one of the RAMs. leave only one of your 1GB RAMs in one of the DIMM slots
...retest BioShock. if it passes, you have a bad motherboard
Let us know how it turns out.

I switched off speed step and ran heroes V....the game didn't hung....but it was slowly playing
I think it problem with speed step in some games.... for example new game....unreal III has never hang my system. The same with nfs carbon or command and conquer III (never hang). i do not want send my new laptop to service....
-
If you absolutely don't want to send it in for service, since you are only using 2 gb ram, you could buy a 2gm dimm, and populate only slot 0. Sell the 2 X 1 gb on ebay, and you should come out OK. Sad that you have to do that, but if you don't want to make Lenovo pay, then that may be your only option. Be sure to test with only one dimm, as Alacrity said, before buying another one. Good luck!

bsodder is "on the money" ... I mean correct.
I know it is hard for you since you might be pretty far from Lenovo support. -
In my experience, Heroes V has been an extremely buggy game. It's got some serious issues with stability and sometimes in game too.

lenovo's driver: 3760
modified from laptopvideo2go: 3970
something like that -
ok..i installed bioshock demo and ran on full details with 1440x900 res.....game didn't hung
But...when i turned off (disabled) intel speed step in bios....heroes V didn't hung too.....hmmm. Strange. -

ReVeal,
It sounds like your PC may be ok.
Your 3DMark06 scores are good.
You had no crashes with Bioshock.
You might be fine.
If so, and you are now fine tuning your PC, you may want to update your FX570m driver to: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=189188
It gave a tad better performance with gaming.
In fact, in reading the forum threads, specific game results seem to be dependent to some extent on the specific gpu driver.
Keep playing and testing.....I think you may be fine. -
OK...i would like to sum all things.
I checked Bioshock and system doesn't hung.
Vista always hungs when i play heroes V. Solution is disabling speed step in bios. Then we have half power of pc but game works. I did not test Age of Empires III with disabled speed step but I think it can solve that problem too. One more thing. Heroes V hungs suddenly when menu game is shown but When I play Age of Empires III then I can play....after few minutes the same problem like with H V. I play Max Payne, Max Payne 2 (full details with native resolution), Bioshock Demo (full details, 1440x900 res), Sega Rally (full details), Toca Race driver 2, Colin 04, Command and Conquer Generals, C&C3 all those games have never hung system. I did not remove one of 2 dimms that why I cannot tell "it works". I took picture when I got bluescreen after Heroes V.
http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/3747/img0981fz0.jpg
but I think it does not tell you anything. So....I'm in 100% sure....I won't send my laptop to service with that problem..becasue I'm sure....here in Poland...They will not solve my problem becasue polish service is as stupid as my previous goverment. They'll say....where is problem?.....We do not see any problem....or They will replace new motherboard but the will put indside the same model ;/ -
AHHH the infamous NVLDDKM error
google it: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=25381
Recent drivers may fix it. Try using Guru3d driver cleaner then installing latest beta forceware. If not, a reformat should fix it. -
hmmm....I removed 1 gb from dimm slot...and ran vista. Heroes V was not hung
. I see I have same problem what other people. I put back 2nd ram ..and heroes V hungs again. It is in 100% problem with dual ram. Lenovo should update that problem with better bios then 2.07 which doesn't fix problem with slot 0...
ps - i'll try with nvidia method..... -
hm.. i never knew thinkpad could play games due to its intel integrated graphic cards...i've tried to play games on my x61 but it gets so hot that i gave up.. maybe the T61 could handle these tress
