Major Differences: T400 gives you LED screen and WiMax? That new Intel 5100/5300 technology. I think it's part of the whole Montevina platform (Centrino2 vPro)

Longer battery life too due to LED screen.

The LED screen is, easily, enough of a selling point to buy the new model.

    I have a dv2000 series, and they are decent enough...but the T400 is a no-brainer for me:

    LED backlit
    Discrete graphic with hybrid switching
    Ultrabay for extra hard drive
3G built-in - with GPS for free (no SIM needed)

I know people with the T61p, and think it's great as well. It all depends is you want a 14" or 15" laptop.

It all depend on your needs. The T61p have a very powerful GPU video card. Meant to be used on CAD applications, although it can run most newer high-end games.
T400 gives you more battery life. The W500 is the successor of the T61p.

I'd go too with a T400 because of the LED backlight + Hybrid Graphics.

The T400 uses the next generation intel CPU's(among other things), but good luck getting a T61p from Lenovo. There are people who ordered the T61p at the beginning of August and are now getting cancellation notices due to shortages of components for this model. I believe you can order T61p's from 3rd party resellers, but with older CPU's.(T7500)
