    Interesting. Thanks merlinwang.

When did you receive your T61p? Can you provide some of your impressions on your LG 15.4 WUXGA panel, i.e. brightness, color, viewing angles?

For those of you who don't want to rip out your LCD Panel to check the manufacturer, PC Wizard 2007 is a great free utility to find out manufacturers for various parts of your computer. It also does some performance benchmarking. If you get the Zip File, you can just put it in a folder or even a USB stick and run the software (no installation necessary).

    LG: LP154WU1
    Samsung: LTN154U1 or LTN154U2

Ordered on July 20, Shipped on Aug 11, Received Aug 13.

brightness: better than T42p in my opinion
color: I can't tell right now. It seems pretty good.

I just check its built-in profile and compare it with Eizo ColorEdge CG18.
    It is not bad; however,
I'll calibrate with SpyderPro to have actual ICC profile soon

    Which type Thinkpad you have?

    If you have t61/p,
    Do you forget to remove the three screws on the front Bezel;
and follow the steps in http://blog.mobile01.com/merlin/article/983

Wow, this is all a surprising but pleasant development. I was told by a Lenovo rep that Samsung is usually their secondary supplier for LCD panels and are only used if LG panels are not available. I thought this was BS since virtually everyone with T61p were reporting Samsung until now. Merlinwang, do you have any comments on the viewing angles (horizontal, vertical)?

Thanks LaptopGuru. Can you share your impressions on your screen quality. Are you satisfied with it? How is the brightness and viewing angles?

    viewing angles (horizontal, vertical)
    Manufacture data
    Viewing Angle (U/D/L/R): 100/130

They don't provide the specific degree for each one.
In my observation, up angle is less than down angle but very enough(U/D:40s/60s). L/R(65/65) viewing angle is awesome.

I am very satisfied with the screen quality. Noticeably brighter than my Dell M65, no dead pixels, and I can easily read the text of this message at a 70 degree side angle and probably a 40 degree angle vertical angle.

edit: Dell M65, not M66 LOL

Anyone else with a T61p want to chime in to give your LCD Panel manufacturer and general impressions on your screen quality?

Sure, I'll post. I've got a T61 14" 1400x1050 (4:3) and the screen sucks (8897CTO). L/R viewing isn't bad, but up/down changes color quite a bit. It's not that bright, and the contrast is terrible. Compared to my T42p 15.1" 1600x1200 screen, well, there's no comparison. I'm considering returning this for a 15.4" 1680x1050 widescreen, in fact.

Sorry to hear about the crappy quality screen. Is it possible for you to check which screen you have and let us know, so that we know what to look out for? If you don't mind helping... You can figure out what screen it is by using Lenovo parts look up:

    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/s...=/partslookup/partsLookup.vm&sitestyle=lenovo
This will give you 2 numbers identifying the screen (FRU numbers) just post them here and we can figure it out that way.

Alternatively you can download PC Wizard 2007 and post the model number of your LCD.

That's really interesting, PC Wizard 2007 just told me the same thing, we both have an LG Philips display. I like it, it doesn't seem as dark as some people say the 15.4" widescreens could be.

Are you sure? Can you tell us how you determined that? Did you use PC Wizard 2007 or similar software? Or did you physically tak out the panel? Thanks.

aadadams I have T61 15.4 ' wsxga and wireless USB not the T61p, and pc wizard reads the same for me. LTN154U2-L05. But the screen is ok, no dead pixels so far. I have not seen any light leakage. I wanted the LG but I think I got stuck with the Samsung and the non Alps or N keyboard.

aadams do your LTN154U2-L05 samsung LCD panel seem to have the 200 nits of brightness, and how can one tell? Guess Lenovo ran out of the LG screens and put Samsungs on the T61. Which is probably just 175 nits of brightness. :frown:

Looks like our hardware has a keyboard in common as well. The Samsung is a fine panel IMO. I have my HP here and I am definitely moving up with this new panel. And, if the LG is better than this then it must be ONE HELL OF AN LCD. I do not think you will be disappointed, at least I am not. Now the Chicony keyboard sucks when compared to the one on my HP. But, you can't win them all.

Iskeys, did you mean LTN154P2 (or LTN154P1)? This is Samsung's 15.4 WSXGA+ panel. How could you have gotten the LTN154U2 (WUXGA panel) on a T61?

Just to clarify with everyone who reported your actual T61p 15.4 WUXGA LCD Panel model number, what FRU number are you seeing for the LCD panel when you punch in your model/serial number in the parts lookup?

    Lenovo Parts Lookup

Are you seeing FRU 42X4642? As merlinwang alluded to the only WUXGA panel listed for the LCD Service Parts is the FRU 42X4642 which is the "Sumsung" model (it is mispelled this way in Lenovo's site).

In my opinion, the only way to see FRU number is dismantling the LCD assembly.
Everyone who doesn't take LCD apart knows their panel type only via proper software as good as PC Wizard 2007 which rock7777 mentioned before.

The FRU number is for Lenovo only...

    Am I wrong?

Ok after a little digging, I have determined which manufacturer goes with which FRU Part Number (15.4 WUXGA LCD Panels):

    LG-Philips: 42T0360
    Samsung: 42X4642

Again, to lookup up your the FRU number for your LCD panel, enter your T61p's model and serial number here:

    Lenovo Parts Lookup

T61p owners, please report back your results.

Hello, this is my first post here...

I bought a T61p with the WUXGA screen a few weeks ago, and so far everything is pretty nice on this computer, fast, really well built, running at low temperature, nice keyboard, BUT I don't like the LCD, which is the Samsung according to PC Wizard 2008.

First impression from the first boot, it's NOT bright enough. PERIOD. Also, mine seems to have a strange problem : on a black screen, the 3/4 right vertical side shows a different type of black (like a bit more of white). It is especially noticiable if looking at the screen from the left side. This is of course very annoying when watching a movie, or in other situations where there's lots of black on the screen. However, I don't feel like complaining to the company, I don't know if they will recognize it as a defect LCD and replace it or not, etc...

I would like to know if I can buy the LG LCD. I could replace it myself, I just need the part. How much would it costs? Where can I buy it from?

Let me know any info please.
Thank you very much, best regards,
    David Champoux

Hi folks... this thread has kind of fallen by the wayside, but I found it searching to find out who makes the 1680x1050 panel for my T61p.

According to PC Wizard I have the LG Panel, as it reports it to be an "LP154W02-TL06". While I think this panel is plenty bright, it does seem to have some issues. I've spotted some very noticeable dithering going on, as repoerted in my review here. Not too noticeable in gaming, or "office suite" usage, but would be an issue if you do any photo/graphics work.

    Cheers!

    T61p vs T41p : T61p wins
    [IMG]

T61p vs T60p : T61p is KO : blue-ish, fuzzy, grainy, poor contrast, too dim, poor viewing angle, bad colors and a lot of diethering.

I can't keep on using this Samsung LTN154U2-L05 panel. I have more than 10 Thinkpad and more than 30 other laptops (due to my work), I never see a so poor screen except a Dell Latitude C810 with 15" UXGA panel in 2002. It was already a Samsung panel...

Today, I buy a brand new LG/Philips LP154WU1 for 195 €. I hope I will get it before the end of the week.
