Happy with my new t61p, but in just two days, I'm having all sorts of issues. Curious if anyone else has seen these problems:
1.) BSOD - Have seen several blue screens already! Related to USBPORT.SYS driver and another one where a driver name wasn't listed. Seem to happen randomly, even when the computer is idle. I do have Intel Turbo Mem and know folks with the t61 are reporting BSOD's with it.
2.) USB problems - Today Vista told me a USB device wasn't functioning properly and I should reconnect it. It was the internal Bluetooth radio. How the hell can I reconnect that? My BT keyboard and mouse stopped working, and only a hard reset / reboot fixed this.
3.) Bluetooth problems - Bluetooth keyboard and mouse stop working after idle for a few minutes, takes the system a long time to "remember" them, and I see the Bluetooth icon in my system tray show up right before they start working again. I made sure the BT system isn't being 'powered down' to conserve battery, but it still persists.
4.) Undocking problems - Using the Advanced Mini Dock. If you undock, sometimes you get a BSOD. Really upsetting.
5.) Hibernation - Takes like 7-10 MINUTES to go into hibernation when I press the button. Works, but takes FOREVER. Anyone else see this? How long does it take for you?

Hum could be Vista issues. I have an T61P on order but plan to use XP Pro. I have been using Vista in a desktop for the last few months and really I see no real benefit over XP Pro for my needs.

I ordered my Thinkpad with vista home premium should there be any problem switching it over to XP when I get it, provided I have a disc and S/N?

hey.......................... at least you got yours. But yes agreed with vengance, it could be vista. If you can somehow install XP, i would def. recommend that over vista

Did you do a clean install?
If not, that should be your first step using the latest drivers.
As for Vista, it's a novelty Toy at this point in time. Another year or two it'll be great, but for now it's buggy, slow, not well supported and not many apps run well on it.
If I were you (and if lenslowvo ever ships my T61P I will be) I'd dual boot XP & Vista. That's assuming of course that you really want to play around with Vista.
On a new Sony lappy I've been playing with I've measured Vista at least 25% slower than XP doing the exact same task.
Put XP on it, forget turbomem and get on with life. -
Also highly recommend a clean install of vista like the poster above mentioned and don't use the restore disk. Also make sure to get the latest drivers from lenovo's site and not from a cd. Not sure if IBM gives you a clean OS disk like dell does.

I did not do a clean install, I did run Lenovo update and Windows update and applied ALL updates, including an update to the Intel Chipset drivers.

Have you tried the Windows Vista Performance and Reliability Updates? These two hot fixed are not included when you run "Windows Update".

after i installed these hot fixes, Vista(clean installed) does run a bit faster than before.
if you want more windows updates, you can try the VISTA SP1 pre-release beta (3.2GB). i'm not sure if that beta version of SP1 can fix your problems. -
When I first got my T61P I firstly installed 3Dmark06, ran some benchmarks then went to make recovery discs and would get a BSOD.
Finally had to use internal recovery, then burn the recovery discs, then do a clean install of Vista.
Since then the system has been 100% stable, none of the problems you describe.
It sounds sad that you need to do a clean install but in this case I think it might help you. -
I have had some problems with the laptop locking up when using 3D Mark 05. . . but no BSOD yet though i am glad that i got XP instead of vista

The first thing I did when I got my T61p was do a clean install of the version of Vista I ordered. No problems with Vista and it runs all the work apps that I need to run.
