I'll be picking my eBay T61p up next time i go to Florida which is where it was shipped, and arrived there just after we left so nobody to sign for it. I was wondering if the Penryn Q9000 is a possibility in the T61p? I'll probably be gaming on it and want to not encourage rapid failure of the GPU so would the quad core Q9000 heat displacement be way to much for the T61p's heatsink or could i mod the heatsink for better heat transfer? Would it be socket compatible?

firstly the quad processors would not work in the T61p, secondly the heat produced from the GPU and CPU (your proposed quad) would probably overwhelm the laptop's smallish fan on the heat sink.

Nope, the only Thinkpad that supports quad cores is the W700/W700ds.

T61p uses the older chipset (PM965) and doesn't support any 1067MHz FSB processors including all quad cores.
