I am currently am running a T61p with win7 pro 64 bit and 4 gigs of ram. I have read on numerous sites that the laptop can actually be upgraded to 8 gigs of ram even though it was never advertised as such. Does anybody know of any good 4 gig ram sticks that are 100% compatible with this system and for sale online? I would hate to buy 8 gigs of ram and have it not work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a T61p with 8GB of memory and it's been that way for 3 years. It has Kingston sticks but there are many other DDR2 brands that will work without issue. I don't see any particularly good deals at newegg.com right now.

They used to carry 8GB kits made by G.SKILL that were a good price but it looks like they only have DDR3 sticks now.

Might want to check buy.com, amazon.com, etc.

thanks for the reply. Do you think 8 gigs is beneficial upgrade? Also I have a 2.2 C2d...you think there would be any benefit to upgrade to a intel 2.6 t9500 chip in the future if it ever gets cheap enough?

I currently have 2x2gb gskill 4-4-4-12 on my T61p. My wife has R61 with 3 GB. I'm going to get a set of 2x4GB and set up both notebooks for 6GB each. 4+2. Hopefully it will work out. I don't see why not.

I just recently upgraded to W7 64bit with a new Seagate Momentus XT hybrid 500GB hd. Very pleased with performance. I am having some issues with the hotkeys though.

If you are asking that question then the answer is probably no. Moving to 8GB means you have a reason to go to the 64bit OS and use virtualization or something else.

What's your reason for wanting to do this?

If you need to ask whether or not you need 8gb ram, you don't need it.

I'm not quite sure about upgrading to 8GB RAM, as while it's nice to have it's also expensive.
