Okay all, before I go and send my month old T61p back for service, just curiouys what everyones thoughts are on this problem......this has been happening since the day I got it.

When I turn on my T61p (after it having been turned off for several hours), the screen doesn't display properly (see attached photo). When I originally received the laptop, I thought this was a one time occurrance since it didn't happen after the first turn on. Two weeks later when I went on a business trip, I turned on my laptop to find the same screen problem. Uh-oh....what in the world? Through a bunch of trial and error, I have determined that when turning the machine on cold, I have to wait 2-3 minutes then power cycle the machine. When I do, the screen displays fine. If I leave the machine on all the time, I can reboot, power cycle, etc. and NEVER have screen display issues on boot.

So, question is....anybody have any idea what the trouble might be? Bad GPU, bad LCD, something loose? My guess is that once whatever it is heats up, the display works just fine, just not from a cold start.

    Thoughts?

You need to send that bad boy back to the depot- I have had similar symptoms on other laptops, and it was always something hardware-fatal, usually the GPU. I hope that you always get the fault when you turn it on cold because that means the techs at the depot will see it immediately, and you will probably get a new TP ordered the next day.

Yea, I am guessing that is GPU related for sure. Or the connection between the GPU and screen.

Either way, I hope Lenovo treats you right. :) Good luck! :)
