the sales guys dont know what they are talking about, because they too are often misled, which in turn, misleads the customer. i doubt lenovo would leak this kinda info to a sales techie

for the t61p i heard dates from june 4, 5,6 9,11.... god knows when it will come out

ask 3 different techies, and u will get 3 different dates.... its a shame

Why don't you like the t61? Historically the p models have not been all that different, they just include a workstation graphics card and that's about the only difference. If you don't like the t61 now, unless it's the graphics card option holding you back, then you aren't likely to like the t61p.

This is true. Let's do this carefully. Alleged dates:

    4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 14

Let's apply a transformation to simplify the calculations:

    1, 2, 3, 6, 8, 11

This is like a modified Fibonacci sequence (don't think too hard; just trust me). I predict the next date will be... 41 - which, surprise surprise, is July 11.

How good am I? I swear I didn't just read the previous posts, make up some half-ass formula, and come up with the new posted date.

That's exactly it, a nerfed graphics card. Getting a nerfed graphics card is like getting a Supra Twin Turbo, without the turbos. Or like getting a Nissan Skyline GT-R Vspec2, without the GT-R Vspec2.

IMO they shouldn't make computers with nerfed graphics cards. Then you're basically buying something that could have been truly great, but you were too cheap to spend the extra 150.00 to get the extraordinary. Its a distinction that sets the Connoisseurs from the proletariat. From the ones who recognize true value, to the ones that will buy a Hyundai, and say its an Accord or Camry.

If I wanted to be cheap and just slightly above average, I woulda bought a Dell.

I want the video card, 4gb, and the 64bit 20% performance increase.

    1 1 2 3 5 8 13 24 37.

I've never seen 37 of ANYthing in nature.

Stop talking out of your ass. "Connoisseurs from the proletariat" wtf? It's not even the right comparison. It would be "bourgeois from the proletariat". Either way proletariat is not suppose to be a demeaning term the way you use it.

I can't figure out whether you're bashing anything but lenovo or anything that has a crappy graphics card.

About the graphics card, I'll give the very obvious response: Some people don't need a powerful graphics card. To use your analogy that would be like my grandma (who only uses her car driving to the store) buying a Supra Twin Turbo. In other words it would be stupid and a waste of money.

Secondly I agree there is a distinction between people who care about the quality of their laptop and those who don't. I think most of who are on this board fall into the former. I don't disagree but you sound like an elitist.

Anyway I think the biggest hope is that random site someone posted that showed ETA for the T61p to be the 14th. But that's not really solid either. That site could have just been pulling dates out of their ass. Why would that site know and Lenovo reps not know?

I don't know what reps people have talked to in the past, but both of the reps I talked to (today and yesterday) said they didn't know. I bet the reps get a kick out of telling people incorrect dates.

Rep #1: Haha dude I just told some customer the T61p was coming out June 12th.
    Rep #2: ROFL
Rep #1: Ya the dumb customers will believe anything you tell them!
Rep #2: Dude try telling them that it'll come out in july 2012 see what happens!

as mentioned before, is it worth all the hassle, the only difference is the gfx card right?

how long do you think the current sale on the lenovo site will be hanging around for?

you think that the prices may stay the same after the rls of the t61p? as noone can confirm pricing as yet, id rather get in now whilst the sale is on, then find out i cant afford the P edition and end up having to pay more for the T61 :(

    ah the dilemma

Some of us just want dedicated video in a 15". For some people like myself a dedicated video card is worth waiting for. If that or the T61p doesn't get released this week I'm going to call HP and ask when their new business notebooks are going to be released. They look pretty nice.

Did anyone else get really excited when they noticed that they changed the intro graphic and thinkpad graphic promo, and then get really sad when they noticed that that is the only new thing on the site...

I contacted lenovo because I am on the verge of bailing on a thinkpad and going with the updated macbook pro. The guy was very helpful; sent out numerous emails to people he thought were in the know and then called me back. He said it may show up on the website at any time but it is unlikely that it will be ready for shipping until July 10th.

    Eskimo,

Anytime means anytime. It is quite evident that the lenovo sales team is not well informed. I am actually beginning to believe the beginning of production being around July10th as it is still a month away and the T61 issues should be resolved.

for goodness sakes folks, it is not a difficult concept. They are going to release the specs before production of the machines actually begin. Or put another way, you should see a T61p option on the lenovo web site at some time in the near future (your guess is as good as mine). Should you choose this option it will likely say that shipping is something like 4 to 6 weeks away.

At this point, we really can't believe the lenovo sales team because they do not seem to have the needed information. I am willing to bet that if you want the T61p, it will not hit your doorstep before August 1st.

I just spoke with a sales rep who actually seemed to know what she was talking about, and she said the expected release date for the T61p is June 26th. She said initially it will be available with 14" 4:3 SXGA/SXGA+ or 15.4" WSXGA/WSXGA+. WUXGA will not be available until July 10th.
