I have been reading these forums looking to see if the T61p would be good for me. The screen quality is somewhat of a concern however as I just did the whole Dell Xps 1530 ordeal and ended up returning 2 computers. The first one I recieved had the Samsung 1400x900 screen which while it was not grainy, had horrible viewing angles, giving an almost tunnel vision type effect when viewing straight on. It was also not very bright at all, especially when compared to a friends new lower end Acer5920 with a 1200x800 Samsung. The second computer was worse with the same viewing angle problems but with the grain and a hump in the keyboard. So both went back. I then decided on the T61p based on power and the very good prices available now.
So what is the general consensus on the screen brightness and quality as of right now on the wsxga+?
How bad are the viewing angles?
What is the level of brightness comparable to?
Many comments regarding a dim screen or washed out colors did not report which panel specifically they were using. My other concern is what to do if I am unhappy with my screen, it seems there is much less recourse than with Dell and their satisfaction guarantee.

    Hi
I share your pain with the Dell M1530's
Ordered 2 new T61 14.1 widescreen 1440x900 LCD Panel Laptops within 30 days, one was LG,the other Chei Mei and BOTH were grainy. People who have concluded grain is from the glossy coating are WRONG,matte screens are grainy too, possibly the Gloss coating makes it even more noticeable, but the coating is not the cause.

Yes I had read through your comparison of the screens and it was very good. It seems as if Lgs are better across the board. Maybe i missed it but did you evaluate the brightness compared with other laptop panels? Everyone seems to call the T61p screens dim. Also for those who have seen both are the T61p screens better for the most part than the XPS M1530 panels? Joooeee, why did you need a replacement?
One last question, is it possible to order a computer, then check the screen model and then cancel the order?

No... you aren't given access to the list of components used to build your system until after it has shipped.
