    T61p with XP Pro clean-install.
I noticed last night that trying to recover from Standby did not work. I had to hold the power button to turn off the machine and restart.
Today, I closed the lid for Standby and transported the machine to school in my notebook bag. When I removed it, it was hot, the fans were on full blast and the Batt light and Sleep icons were lit up. I opened the lid and it would not resume from Standby. Had to hold the power button again to turn it off.

    Any idea what's going on?

My impression is that you are not letting the unit go to standby completely before you close the LCD resulting in it continuing to run. Have you put it to sleep without closing the lid? If you cannot you may want to check your video card driver by doing a reinstall of the most recent one.

I have often wondered if that matters (waiting for it to sleep before closing the lid). I have mine configured to go to sleep by closing the lid and to wake up by opening the lid.

If it's anything like my T61p which was returned defective there is some sort of bug preventing it from sleeping or hibernating.

I could tell mine to sleep/hib and it would go down, only to wake up a few minutes later.

This behavior was very reproduce able lid up or down, sleep or hibernate.

It was unresolved and still an unacknowledged problem when the defective machine was returned to Lenovo.

i have it set to sleep when lid closes, too.
it beeps until sleep is achieved. it was in sleep before i put it in the bag.

i tested it out again, and also let it sleep for at least 20 minutes before resuming, and it worked fine.

i also installed the QFE OSFX pack as well. i think the problem "might" be fixed.
we'll see if it does it again.

ok. happened again. i went to bring it out of sleep and it would not resume.
i could open the dvd drive, turn on the ThinkLight, but it still remained in "sleep." the moon icon, the AC icon and the batt icon were all lit. I was able to unplug the AC and it would beep as usual and plug it back in and get the beep again.

had to hold the power button until it shut off.

    any ideas?

I had no USB ports occupied. It goes into sleep with no problem at all.

I have mine set to go to sleep when I close the lid as well, but if I do not allow it to go to sleep and put it in my bag 50 % of the time when I take it out it is in some sort of limbo like the description above. YMMV

    Try pressing Fn to resume.

My T61p acts exactly the same. It's weird, but Fn does the job, so I don't really care.

    just pressing Fn by itself?
i think i may have hit Fn just now, as it happened again, while i was holding Fn and hitting every button with a Fn function. didn't work.
i also noticed my batt was at 85% when I rebooted back into Windows.
getting angry. i'll try just pressing the Fn key by itself next time. thanks for the suggestion.

    anyone else?

If I am not mistaken the "Fn" out of standby is a portion of the Hot Keys driver/application. You can use it alone to bring it out of stand by.

the Fn works normally, but not when I was having these issues.

    Update:
3 out of 3 times since my last post, Standby Resume has been successful. And let me tell you why: I've been "stopping" the DVD drive before closing the lid. I've also disabled any Wake options for the Ethernet/Wireless in the Device Manager.
Now, if this gets to be annoying to do this everytime, I'll find a fix for it. I think I already have a clue what it might be. After the clean-install, I did install the EasyEject application (this is only for the DVD drive, right??), but I immediately disabled the Service so as not to take up resources (and I don't need to remove the drive ever).

It's only been 3 times, but if it happens again, I'll be sure to update. Surprised no one else has had this problem.
