    I have just gone over the t61p hardware guid and there is only mention of a microphone jack but no microphone.

    Yet I've seen people here say there is one. Vista ultimate does detect something it's calling a microphone. Does it work for anyone here?

    Look on the keyboard, right under the FN key..That's the microphone (know for a fact because I used Windows Speech Recognition).

    This isn't curiosity. My mike isn't working.

    It's there and it's real. It's a little silver thing on the frame with a set of tin grey wires the color of the frame buried under other wires so that I cn't follow them.

    Not only that.... there seems to no mention of the microphone in the hardware guide.

    Go to Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Sound->[Recording Tab]->[Select Microphone]->[Configure Button]

    Or the following path: "Control Panel\Ease of Access\Speech Recognition Options"

    There you can setup the microphone.

    Did you try turning on the Microphone Boost in mic properties?

    My mic doesn't work properly either. It will detect sound but at a barely audible level, I'd suggest investing in a USB microphone if possible. (Thats what I did)

    It works well for me. I just spent half an hour fooling around with it.
