    Hi,

I just received my wuxga t61p for several day.

Today I found out that the lower-cover (please see the picture), is somewhat loose, like i can move it up or down a little bit.

I wonder whether it's alright? if now, what can I do?

    Thank you!

My T60 has a little play there as well. It hasn't been an issue for me -- I think it's some kind of bay cover.

I'm pretty sure it's the cover for the hard drive slot. At least on my T60 it is. You can try screwing it in a bit, but be careful of stripping plastic.

no, no, not the hard rive slot, it's the cover above the hard drive slot, which has the LOGO "IBM ThinkPad". I can move it a little up or down by touch the lower right corner.

My R61 had the same thing, sent it in twice to the depot and both times it came back the same way. First time they said they couldn't replicate the problem, second time they said they fixed it, but nothing.

So you'll just have to live with it.

That's bad. I already called IBM, and they told me I would get a box tmrr for shipping the laptop to them.

DO NOT SEND IT TO THE DEPOT for a small problem like this. It is just not worth it. My cover also has a little play, on the left side, the right side seems solid. I can kind of tap at it and it makes a clicking sound...unfortunately..it's part of the design....also try pressing down on the left speaker around the f1 key...more towards the edge..and you will hear a clicking there...these are just faults we have to live with...nonetheless, it is still a solid laptop

by sending it to the depot, it may come back in a worse shape

BTW, is the palm rest loose problem a common problem? or just some special case?

common problem...when i got mine..i was worried that i had a defect...but going to the local best buy and CDW, all of them had the same problem
that noise is the processor, which is normal

regarding the depot..who knows how they treat ure computer...the transport is damaging in itself.....read the thread called "strange things happening at the depot"

If it's definitely not the Hard Drive cover, there are a number of screws on the bottom that secure the palm rest. My guess is either there is a loose screw or the palm rest is misaligned (a number of users have reported this), and it may just be a matter of removing the screws, realigning the palm rest, and resecuring it. I would DEFINITELY not send it to the depot for this. Definitely a user serviceable item.

good decision...try avoiding the depot at all costs...especially when you can serve it your self...it's very easy...or just tell them to send you a new palm rest instead of sending it to the depot

Just call the support number again and tell then you will resolve yourself. Guessing they will either have you discard the box or return it empty. Let us know if you need any assistance realigning the palm rest.

Did you add memory! The palm rest should snap-in place! This is where you install the memory modules.

    Thank you!
