I'm undecided on weather or not I should wait for the new T series to come out. I love the T61p but the thickness is a bit too much for me, macbook pro is just so much sleeker but the reliability on the MBP is crap from what I heard, do you guys think the the series (Assuming it will be released with montevina?) will have LED backlit display and cut down to 1.1-1.2" instead of 1.4"?
-
No one knows, but if you can wait, do so, if you need one now, go buy one.

-
I don't think MBPs are unreliable. Price is probably the most concern.
But yeah, if you can wait, then wait. -
"But why!!! why must thinkpad be so thick!"
Ans : To accommodate a roll-cage protection. When you buy a ThinkPad, you know your machine is made strong.

true, but if they used a LED backed display I think it would knock .2" off the thickness. no?

Has there been any rumor sites etc that have the specs on the new T-series?
I'd love to get a t61p with an LED screen, either a 14" or a 15".
I have a Dell 1330 I use as a remote machine for just browsing and IE/FF gmail etc, and I love the LED screen that thing has. I could not use the 1330 as my primary machine though, not rugged enough, no real docking solution, no DVI, etc.
I'd love to get a 14/15" t61p with LED and make it my primary machine for everyday use.
We'll see what happens though..if Dell gets the new Latitude E LED systems out before any other business based notebook provider, I might have to go with one of those for the LED screen.

MBP is lighter and the screen is so purty. But reliability for me is topmost as this is my business machine, needed every single day without fail. And who'd take an MBP user seriously anyway ?

I have a strong inclination to believe that future ThinkPad T series will be equipped with LED-backlit screen; reasons being :
a) The X300 already employs such technology and the T series is ThinkPad's "performance" series.
b) The market is in the trend to adopt LED-backlit screen for their top series.
On a futher note. Your need for a "perfect notebook" cannot be attained. Go to all forums of all brands you can think of. Within them, you'll read about all manners of complaints. So, that "perfect notebook" does not exist. What really matters is to adopt a balanced-view to consider a notebook in its totality, not simply on 1 particular aspect only.

with better a video card

The issue I find is that MacBook Pros can dent, due to that aluminum casing. I've seen a lot of them after two years with dings around the front latch or the ExpressCard slot or optical drive slot (where the aluminum isn't as strong due to less metal and slots cut into the housing), or on the corners due to an accidental drop. At that point, they don't look nearly as pretty.
To the OP: I find that the T61 is plenty thin for my needs. I also think that the "perfect" notebook will never exist; you need to look for "as perfect as I can hope to expect". -
so? Has anyone heard about a new T series coming out? how old is the current T series?
-
t61p came out last june a believe, montevina comes out june this year so I would expect a new T series before the end of Q3
-
-
once hype rumors about the t61 and t61p started...it was SEVERAL months later until either one debuted...so far there have been no rumors or news about a new t-series...
montevina which IS scheduled in june...check out their website. and also if you take history into account...the t61p was released several months after the t61. so if the earliest that the new T series comes out is early july (thats a conservative guess)...then the earliest the new T series p version would be a few months after july.
all i gave was speculation but at least we can figure it will be a while. -
wahhhh wahhhhh, stop ending my hopes and dreams of a t70 series! xD
T61p now or wait for new T series?
