    Dear friend,

I just got a T61p from store. Our model is 6450 - 67U. I'm running Win Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1.

Yesterday, i didn't remember what I did for sure, but now everytime I log on to Windows, the Taskbar always has a option : Safely remove your hardware, and the hardware here is the included DVD-CDRW drive on my lappy. I wonder why this can happen ??? Something like my laptop recognizes the DVD-RW Drive as a USB device, if I safely remove it, the DVD-CDRW drive will be disabled (means I can't see that hardware device on the "Device Manager" anymore.

It just happened yesterday, and I can't understand why it happens. I didn't do anything wrong with the PC, just do a clean Vista install, but it's running very well till yesterday, when i realized the problem.

Could you please help me to solve the problem ? What do I need to do to solve that ?

    Really really appreciate any advice.

    Sincerely yours,

This isn't a problem. The optical drive is a removeable device, hence the removeable hardware icon the system tray. It's not recognizing it as USB, but rather a removeable device.

Like the above poster mentioned, the drive is listed because it's a hot swappable drive, meaning that while the computer is on and running, it can be disabled, and removed in favor of adding a hard drive or another battery in its place. There is a small lever on the side of the laptop between the eject button and the drive light that when pressed will eject a small tab that you can use to pull out the drive. You simply remove the drive, put the new device in, and push the tab back in to turn on that device. Or if you disable the DVD drive and want to re-enable it, you simply eject the tab and push it back in.

Oh, thanks all for your info. But I just wonder why this didn't happen before, coz I just saw the "Safely Remove Hardware" on these days. :(

you may have just installed the hot-swap utility that enables removal and plug-and-play of the DVD drive.
