    My LCD broke on my T61p (6459-CTO). It had the WSXGA+ 1680x1050 15.4'' display (p/n 42T0328).

Can I just get a replacement off e-bay and install it myself? If so, can I get a WUXGA 1920x1200 one so that I get an upgrade in the screen resolution or will it not work as a replacement / require more parts?

I prefer matte so I need to watch out to get that instead of a glossy one. Anything else to watch out for? Specific manufacturers to avoid?

Yes you can buy it off ebay. I believe you can upgrade it to WUXGA as well, but you might want to double check. I don't think thinkpad T61p's come with glossy screens anyway.

i might be totally mistaken, but somebody told me before that panels can be inverter-specific. So make sure the inverter will mate with the panel you are planning to buy.

Acording to this link, the WSXGA+ and WUXGA panels use the same cable and inverter. I've seen the WSXGA+ and it's a pretty decent panel by today's standards, but I've heard the WUXGA panel is not as good, though I've not seen it myself. It's dimmer than the WSXGA+. Plus some of the text will be very small. I'd try to check one out to see if you like it before you buy one.

I got told on another forum I may need to "reflash the EDID ROM" if I change to a third party LCD panel. Any ideas what it involves and if it will be needed?

It's not worth the hassle in my opinion unless you really want to do it.

My T61 screen broke too, at the right hinge. The screen frame also is coming apart at that area. Sending it back as it's luckily still under warranty.

Awful workmanship and quality. Though I'm hoping its just a one time issue as I just ordered a T400.

Yeah well mine wasn't a workmanship problem... I have young kids prowling around the house leaving destruction in their wake. It fell and landed awkwardly on the power supply :(.

Anyway I ordered an LG WSXGA+ 42T0423 from eBay for $70 + $45 shipping. Fingers crossed I can install it OK.

    Thanks again for your help.
