Hi, I just received my new T61p 14" (4:3)... I'm very happy with it because everything seem to be working perfectly... except that I just noticed the top cover (other side of the LCD) is not flat!

I run my hand over it and i can feel that it is bumpy, like something is pushing it up? Maybe the rollcage? Is there even rollcage on the top cover?

Anyone, I was wondering if this is normal or if I should discuss it with lenovo. Thanks!

Yes there is a rollcage and it makes the top cover bump up a little. I'll find the official article from Lenovo.

edit: ahh nvm, John B's all over it. ;)

Those are the antenna cables and they have come out of their channels. I think I have that condition after I installed my WWAN and I haven't gone back in and fixed that.

Yup, it certainly is not flat. Furthermore, the bottom of my 15.4" T61p is not flat either. Just part of the design. :)

I dont have WWAN so it can't be the antenna... I read the article and I feel a lot better about the bowing, that's for sure! But I kinda laugh about it because it seems like Lenovo has an answer to everything that people claim to be a bad design or a quality issue.

Thanks for the quick response guys, I am loving the laptop! Time to put in my additional 2GB RAM and Hitachi 7K200 200GB HDD!

Do you have WLAN or Blue tooth or UWB?

They all have cables. There are five cables in the top, If you have WLAN then some of those cables are replaced by WWAN. The antenna system is quite complex, especially if you have N WLAN

I have a 14" T61p so UWB is not available to me (I actually dunno what that is haha... wireless USB? what's that.)

I do have both WLAN and Bluetooth... so that might be it... but I don't want to take apart me new computer haha.... I'll just let it be for now? Would anything be damaged?

If you're interested in UWB, check out this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultra-wideband

    It's good stuff.

    "Would anything be damaged?"

    It's unlikely.
