i'm on my new t61p! it's great, everything seems fine. i love the keyboard. so much better than my t40's -- soft and quiet.
anyway, all i did so far was create recovery and rescue discs. i've been following stallen's clean install guide, and i'm about to download the drivers.
the first thing for the drivers that he says to do is download the intel chipset/INF update utility here. do i just download the multi lang exe or do i choose from the list below that? and if i download the new bios version from lenovo's site, do i install that before or after the chipset driver?
so i guess what i want to know is:
1) what chipset driver do i get?
2) if i download the very recent bios update, do i install it before or after the chipset driver
thank you

Hold up one second. I am pretty much in the same place as you, trying to do a clean install. From my understanding, you can't do a clean install with just the recovery discs, you need a vista disc. This is where the problems start for me. Do you have a Vista disc?
-
yeah, i made one earlier. i just need to know what chipset i have ><

nvm, it's an intel gm965. if you want to know everything about your computer, get http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php

How did you make a Vista disc?
-
There's a download link somewhere for Vista disk (or you can buy a Vista dvd for 5$ i think). But no activation key of course. The clean Vista guide is about using the key you have in your computer for a clean install.

Ah...Is it legal??
-
yeah it is, without the key your machine will stop working after 30 days. You can also order a disc if you want to as well.

there's the thread, yes it's legal, and it's good if you bought a lenovo laptop that came with no discs and a vista home premium license
