Interesting - they just added the t61p to the t series description on the landing page.

"...New ThinkPad T61 and T61p models are the most secure, strongest, coolest and quietest T Series notebooks ever, and are available in highly mobile 14.1" and 15.4" wide screen sizes.."

Of course it'd be cheaper. The T61 with the nvs 140m starts at $1419 but sells for much cheaper.

Great to hear that the T61p has a confirmed date now. Only thing left for me is to wait for the 14" versions.

    omg another week.

as for the pricing comment, you buy a t61p at the cheap price you're probably not getting much of a computer either.

At first I couldn't find what you were talking about lam, but here it is:

    Thinkpad T61 Wide 8895CTO

It's 1600.00 starting base price, it appears. I wonder. Can I purchase it from the corporate website?

I wonder why it's the only one? I love how it's only one hundred more than the other Nvidia, but will be more than twice as great in performance.

Um okay, so apparently there's 3 laptops available,

All options are basically, WWAN+ FX570M.

BIG PROBLEM. You cannot get ITM with FX570M, since WWAN is slaved to FX570M. What the heck?!

Why can't we have WWAN + ITM? Wouldn't it seem obvious that the newest technology available type laptop should have newest technology(ITM) with newest video card (570M)?

And if Magma invents a PCI Express hub, or for that matter, we just get a docking station with an extra PCI-E slot, would that work together?

Does the Advanced full size doc have an extra PCI-E slot? So maybe the lappy comes with ITM, and then we stick in WWAN when we need it?

Does anyone think WWAN should have been integrated?

Calm down, if anything, this configuration is probably temporary, and will change by the time it hits the consumer website.

The advanced dock has a half height PCIe slot, not a PCIe mini slot. You can stick a graphics card in there, but there's issues with power draw (desktop x1600 took up too much juice).

Yeah, didn't like how it's slaved (extra $150+ cost you can't eliminate). But would you really give up internal WLAN (802.11b/g/n) just so you can have WWAN + ITM?

Besides, word on the street is that ITM is pretty much a flop - you literally may get more of a boost by running defrag on your HDD.

Either way, if you really want ITM, it costs all of $27 for 1GB at Amazon.com; you can buy it separately and swap out your 802.11 card.

It's got an internal PCI-E slot, not an expresscard slot IIRC.

So I'm guessing it's only minor surgery to swap out the WLAN for the ITM if you really wanted to?

    JM:
I'd be willing to bet that it'll not ship for several days after the release date, a la T61 debacle. Who knows though, perhaps they've learned something from this. I have a feeling this rig will really give the HP 8510W I ordered a run for it's money. If they can get a T61p to me fast...well...I might jump ship even still.

Looks like the big differences are the 570M, the WUXGA resolution, and the UWB. I don't think the UWB would be that useful for most and any UWB accessories will be expensive at first. Did I miss anything?

That is pretty much what was expected, although the UWB might be a surprise for some. Sounds like a good system. Nothing extraordinary, but the t61p will be a good option for some.

A little bit smaller and lighter than Z61p:

    Weight & Dimensions
    Weight: 2.5Kg
    Height: 29.7mm
    Width: 357.5mm
    Depth: 255mm
    Travel weight: 2,61Kgs

Here is an example. The link is back again today. It has been missing now for almost a week:

    http://www5.pc.ibm.com/se/products.nsf/$wwwPartNumLookup/_NH36XSW?OpenDocument

I will be interesting to see who will be the first one to get it, and mybe to write a little bit about it (like experiences, expectations etc)

The graphics card is nice and the display is even nicer, still I would wait for the 14" version. No widescreen option for T61p?

Sorry, no non-widescreen options so far.

But if you're willing to give up UWB, they do offer a 4:3 14" T61 with the new Quadro FX 570M, and you do pay a "P for Premium" price for it even though the extra letter isn't not on the clearplate :)

    Lenovo's website is the lamest.

I want to buy a T61p 14.1 --where is it? When is it coming out. If it doesn't they don't know the market well--there are a zillion 15" books with decent GPUs but very few 14.1 inchers. I want to be able to carry my computer and play a game on it.

    A. You never know what price you are getting.
    B. Some products with certain options are only available via specific channels.
    C. You have to dig up certain products like the 14" T61 with the nVidia 570 FX card.

    My advice is simplify:
    1. One letter stands for a line.
    2. Set of numbers for the chip, another for the size screen.

What is up with using the same denomination for two different sized laptops, cf. T61 or T61p?
