Do you think there is any chance of Lenovo configuring a T61p with DOS over the phone?

i dont think so. i replied to numerous threads/made a thread of my own ranting about how i could not choose DOS as an OS option anymore. apparently it was an error that was corrected in about a week or so. i heard whoever ordered a laptop with DOS as their OS had their order canceled. so i dont think you will have any luck over the phone.

Why can't they offer customers what they want....

    Retarded!

I have 4 copies of Vista (3 Ultimate, 1 Business) and 3 of XP Pro (all legit, all retail) sitting in my office. I don't want to pay for another one.

I have a quote for a T61p with no OS on it, but I have since decided I wanted the 3 year warranty. Can you add thinks like warranties onto a quote or do you have to buy as-is?

@ synic: You would like that wouldn't you. :)

Yes, you can add warranties after the fact. You just have to make sure to associate them with your serial number if they weren't purchased at the same time. You can purchase them directly from Lenovo or through a reseller such as CDW. There are all sorts of combinations (1yr onsite with year 2-3 depot, etc) but here is probably what you're looking for:

    41C9170 1yr depot to 3yr depot ($119)
    41C9168 1yr depot to 3yr onsite ($243)
    41C9334 1yr depot to 3yr depot + TPP ($279)
    41C9338 1yr depot to 3yr onsite + TPP ($389)

There are two lists of part numbers, the second list includes Thinkpad Protection (accidental damage). All accidental damage claims must be repaired at the depot even if your warranty is NBD):

Check out some of the third party accident warranties. I think safeware was mentioned on NBR before, people said it was good and reliable. http://www.safeware.com/
