    Hi,

I just cloned my 500Gb Seagate harddrive to a new SSD, using TrueImage 2013
(SSD as main drive, Hdd in caddy).

Now the machine won't boot (just cursor blinking in upper left corner).

    1. Bios "sees" the SSD
    2. I've tried upgrading Bios to Middlethon's
    3. I've put the SSD in another laptop (HP Presario V6500) and it started to boot right away

So I'm thinking this is a T61 problem.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Regards
    Ketil

    Welcome to the forum!

I'm suspecting that something in your cloning process went haywire. T61s have zero problems with SSDs.

Your unit and/or your SSD was likely defective. I've owned more T61/p machines than I'd care to count and have never encountered an issue.

If you read the original post carefully, you'll see that none of this applies to what the poster is complaining about. And he has a SSD which is known to work in T61/p.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. There are hundreds of folks on TPF who have upgraded their T61/p units with SSDs with no roadblocks, which mirrors my own experiences.

Running a T61 for several years. No problem. Bought a Corsair Force3. The T61 would not see it in the notebook. Put the SSD in another PC; clean installed Win7. Two desktops boot from the SSD. Put it in the T61 - Error 2100. Put the HD back in, boots fine. Updated the BIOS. Boots fine from HD, Error 2100 from SSD. From an external enclosure, the T61 sees all of the files on the SSD. I've swapped the HD and the SSD 8 times, always the same result. The SSD is fine, the HD is fine, the T61 is fine, but the T61 and the SSD do not want to play well together.

Don't assume your experiences are more important than someone elses. I agree that we will have to agree to disagree.

It's not about importance per se, but about the sheer quantity of these particular machines that went through my hands over the past six years.

With that said, I'm always careful on which SSDs I install...but Crucial/Micron, Intel, OCZ and Samsung have all worked flawlessly in my T61/p units.

if it sees it in the bios, all is working fine. Something happened in the clone process, cloning a smaller HD to a bigger new drive usually never runs into problems. If you have a 500gb and clone it to a 250gb SSD then you'll run into some issues. Backup everything, boot with the ssd in the machine and a windows 7 disc. Choose the repair option.

"T61s have zero problems with SSDs."

This is what got us started. Now you are careful...

So help the rest of us out here. Which SSD's don't play well with T61's? TIA.

    You misunderstood.

I've installed hundreds of SSDs in T61/p units without an issue, so I couldn't possibly answer your question based on my own experiences.

My point was that I'm generally careful about choosing an SSD. Since I don't want to start a flame war here, you can presume the following ones "safe" due to the fact that I've used them without any problems:

    Crucial C300

    Crucial M4 aka Micron C400 (when Lenovo-issued)

Intel 320 series (Lenovo-branded) as well as some older Intel SSDs

OCZ Vertex II (pre-SandForce, with Indilinx controller)

    Samsung 830

Anything and everything else, you're on your own. Might work great or not at all.

So yes, in my not-so-modest experience, T61 generation (as well as their R61 and X61 cousins) does have zero issues with SSDs.

I agree with your "not-so-modest" experience. It is not very modest. Inductive reasoning for the win.

I'm running an M4 in my desktop. I'll try it in the T61. Thank you.

I'll stop now. you can have the last word, if you like.
