I'm trying to use the Rescue and Recovery utility to restore Windows Vista, but it can't see my HDD.

It says "Not available" next to hard disk drive size in the system information window. Attempting a restore just results in a failed notice (no reason given, though that is obvious).

    How do I remedy this?

    Cheers.

    Penguin,

Can you use the Recovery CDs instead?

I just got my T61p last night and it wouldn't boot. :( A window popped up that stated that the operating system was not fully installed. So I call Lenovo for help and they pass me to the software department which will help me for a mere fee of $99.

Not happy about that. My experience with Dell would be that they would happily help a customer with this type of problem.

    This is what I did.

    1. Click F11. That takes you to the recovery mode. (you have got there already)

    2. Keep clicking the restore option and canceling it till it finally allows you to select the local hdd option.

I had the exact same problem. From their I was able to do a clean restore and install only the applications that I wanted.

Also there is a way to create a system restore disk from the hdd. However I don't know how to do this.

You can also fix problems by booting and clicking the F8 key as it starts up then selecting the SAFE MODE. From the safe MODE you can log in as an adminstrator and fix problems.

Also you can call this number 1-800-426-7416 and order the restore CD software from Lenovo for free. (I did that too)

Lenovo doesn't send out the restore disk to save cost. A few other big name computer manufacturers are doing the same thing now.

This is my first IBM/Lenovo computer and overall I am very happy with the machine just having a few problems learning the new applications.

    Good luck.

This is definitely a warranty call. They really treated you poorly. :(

Just keep forcing it to work. Click, select, cancel till it gives you the local hdd option.
