"We reported last month that big price cuts on notebook chips are coming soon, as Intel prepares the ground for the introduction of dual core "Merom" (pronounced "me Rome") microprocessors."

"Local notebook makers also urged Intel to implement in advance a planned May 28 price reduction of its Yonah CPUs so as to boost sales of Napa notebooks."

Unless one needs a T60 right now, there doesn't seem to be much reason not to wait...any guesses as to the actual ship date of some of these merons? or even the price cuts?

Merom will be a while and I suspect any price cuts will be too, since Core Duo is in extremely high demand. You can't hardly even find a T60 right now, Lenovo has little reason to put them on sale.

this is a good thread i was thinking of getting a laptop for college this fall, but do you guys think i should wait for merom? and 64-bit? or should i got with the current t60 with core duo

Lenovo announced the T60, what, January? And it started shipping in the middle of March. The word is that they'll come out with, read:announce, meron middle to late this year. If you can wait, do it. I needed a notebook this summer, I got one.
