Hi everyone!
Okay, so I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x60s.
I did a complete, clean reformat, and installed Windows XP.
First thing I tried was Client Security Solution 8.1.
It gave me the customary "The user could not be enrolled with Client Security Solution" message.
So I tried all the suggested solutions:
Uninstall, reset security chip in BIOS, reinstall... same thing.
Uninstalled TPM, reinstalled TPM driver, repeated above... same thing.
I couldn't do the "taking ownership of TPM" option because I never installed Vista, so there is no such thing as a TPM.msc for me.
Any suggestions? I am completely out of ideas here. I know it's not a software / harddrive issue, everything is clean (there is no other program installed).
Aside from "clearing" the security chip in the BIOS, is there a more thorough way of resetting the security chip?
Help!
Thanks!!!

Do you already have rescue and recovery installed?
I got this info with a quick google-
To clear the TPM from the BIOS, do the following:
1. Turn the computer off.
2. Turn the computer on and press F1 to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3. From the Security menu, locate the option to clear the security device. Sometimes it is referred to as the TPM or TCG feature.
4. Save and exit the BIOS setup menu.
5. Restart Windows and enroll in Client Security Solution.
The process should complete successfully. Contact Lenovo technical support if the problem persists. -
Hey, as I mentioned in my original thread, I have done that already. In fact, it was the very first thing I did:
"So I tried all the suggested solutions:
Uninstall, reset security chip in BIOS, reinstall... same thing."
I guess I wasn't being clear about what I meant by "reset". I cleared the chip countless times. I never got any error message when I cleared the chip. I have tried disabling and then enabling it. I tried putting it into inactive and then enabling it again. And then clearing it. Still no luck.
Aside from the security chip, I have also cleared all the old fingerprints from the BIOS, I have reformatted the entire harddrive, I have uninstalled and reinstalled the TPM driver... still nothing.
Thanks!! -
Having just downgraded to XP, I am having the same problem. I did a complete wipe-reinstall using the XP recovery discs
In my case however, I'm not seeing an option in the "Security Chip" section of my BIOS to clear the TPM or TCG; I can't clear what I cannot find.
I can log in with my fingerprint reader, but every time things load up, it asks me to enter my startup password. I enter it in, it takes it (it rejects bad passwords, so I know I have things right at the moment) but then it fails to enroll. I'm logging in as a domain user on an AD network.
If someone can even help me FIND the Clear option in my T61's BIOS, that'd be great. I updated to the latest BIOS via the System Update several days ago while I still had Vista installed. -
I managed to clear the tpm password with the info here
http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=X_Series_Thinkpads&thread.id=305
While windows is loading turn of the laptop, then go in to bios, security, secuirty chip and a new option appears 'clear password'. -
Thank you so much Muhit! Lenovo software suggested that the TPM password be cleared in the BIOS. Yet it didn't specify that the option to clear the TPM password doesn't exist under normal condition.
You've made only one post so far and yet it was very resourceful. -
SAMUELH I was having the same problem as you did you forgot to press F10 (save & Exit) after changing the settings the above solution works fine
TPM / Client Security Solution / Enrollment problem - Nothing would work!
