I'm a newbie who needs advice on setting up my new R61 -- especially on what I should do with TPM and the Lenovo client security software. Early in the setup, I was asked for permission to reconfigure in order to activate TPM. I checked some posts here which made TPM sound OK, so I granted permission. Now, when I boot up, a window opens that says client security software has been installed, but to use it I have to let the operating system configure it -- I've been clicking "No, but ask again." Another option is "No, don't ask again."
Posts here make it sound as though the client security software is unnecessary and likely to cause problems. I want to use the fingerprint reader for Windows (which is setup and working), but don't care about using it for other passwords. And my machine is for personal use and mostly kept at home.
So here are the questions:
1. Does anyone think I'd be making a big mistake to uninstall and/or not use the client security software?
2. Should I just refuse to let it be configured but leave it installed? Wouldn't I be better off to uninstall it? Do I just use Windows uninstall to do that?
3. There seems some connection between Client Security Software and TPM -- so would uninstalling CSS cause problems since I've activated TPM?
4. Would I also need to unactivate TPM -- and how would I do that? [I've seen some reference to modifying the bios, which really confuse me.]
Obviously I need help -- and I likely will need fairly detailed instructions!! I've tried to read posts, but that has left me more confused. Thanks in advance.
