Ok for the last 3 years or so I have been using the Final Fantasy XI Benchmark program to give myself a numerical idea of what my computers are capable of. So today I decided to compare my desktop and my brand new X61 with it. The X61 crashed much to my surprise on the high resolution setting and only scored an 1100 on the low resolution setting. I am very stunned by these results and was wondering if anybody else has run this program on their X61.
Desktop:
XP Home
2700 amd
1 gig ram
7600 256mb graphics card
High res score: 4496
low res score: 6634
X61:
Vista Buisness
Intel® Core 2 Duo L7500 LV (1.6 GHz)
2 gigs ram
GMA x3100
High res score: 692 before crash
low res score: 1105
I am pretty sure that my emachines M5309 blew did better than this
I am thinking that the program might not be vista compatable since it is so old, but I have had concerns about the X61 running slower than it really should since I got it, as I frequently get messages in PDF or Windows Journal documents saying that it the programs are not responding. However if I wait those just go away after a few seconds.
I guess basically what I am saying is that the X61 seems to be running slower than it should but I have no experience with Vista at all and have no real idea what to expect.
Can anyone point me to a better benchmark program to use to compare both computers?
Thanks in Advance

the intel x3100 graphics perform very poorly without the beta drivers. the beta drivers have hardware accelerated T&L support.

What's everyone's Vista 3D score in Vista? I have a 1.0 but I think it's something to do with the drivers. I'm going to try the Beta ones now.

The 7600 graphics card in your desktop is way better than the X3100 intel integrated graphics card in your notebook. Intel do not make high performance graphics solutions. Intel drivers for the X3100 are not that great for 3D. Plus, the drivers for Vista on all graphics cards have poorer performance than in XP atm.
Other benchmark programs to use are 3dmark 03, 3dmark 2005, and 3dmark 2006. They do not exactly give real world results, but they give fairly good synthetic results. -

After a nice clean install and system update I more than doubled my low RES score to 2489 and went from crashing in the hi-res test to scoring a respectable 1699.
I know this is a weird place to put it, but I just wanted to say thanks for all the quick responses and help. -
