Did Lenovo ever offer the X201T with the superbright and outdoor screens or was it only available through retailers? What about the X200T? I know some people got them in X200T's during the $650 outlet deal a while ago. Asking since I don't see the option currently from lenovo and am wondering if that's always been the case.

It was available as an option for a while, but was pulled probably due to a panel shortage. I think if you can find machine types in the tabook, some are still available via internet retailers.

Thanks for the tip. Looks like they fetch quite a premium from retailers.

Is there any way to find the 285nit X200 tablets without having a serial number?

I don't know about a premium. When you pay $1300 from Lenovo for a base tablet and the outdoor screen was a $300 upgrade, I don't know that I'd call it a large premium. You won't pay tax on the internet. It may be cheaper than if it was available from Lenovo. That's just the cost of entry if you wish to pay it.

I don't think there's a way to discern if a particular machine type has a certain display without the serial number. You can make a more informed guess based on what other machines with the same type have, but it's still a guess.

The outdoor screen may have been a $300 upgrade, but retailers are charging a larger premium than that for those builds over what's available from lenovo now.

Either way, the lack of framlessness is a big turn off with the outdoor screen. The Superbright in the X200t is as good as it's going to get in terms of brightness while being frameless.

I saw some X201t with the outdoor display for about $1600 via google. That makes it about the same price as buying it from Lenovo if they offered it.

If you feel at ease going through an individual dealer you might be able to contact them and ask for re detailed information about the machine, including the specific display model.

I have some acquaintances who did this via e-bay when they were buying an hp tablet that had a rash of bad screens with some good screens mixed in. He asked the retailer fir detailed info about the screen model and bought it only after making sure it was the model he was looking for.

I got my X200t via eBay open box. I asked the seller for the serial, which they gave. From the serial I confirmed it was the Hydis, not the Samsung, which is what I wanted.

Doesn't Lenovo list all their part numbers online? You just have to know the Type you are looking for?

You can the get part numbers in the service manual. Lenovo however uses multiple part suppliers. For example, if you get a X201 you may get a Samsung or AUO LCD. The machine type doesn't indicate which part you received. You need serial number to determine which it is via the parts look up.
