Hi, so I am planning to build a new computer soon and I was wondering if the SSD that I have on my Lenovo y410p can go into my new computer. THe SSD is cloned from the original Lenovo y410p HDD and I was wondering if I use the SSD, would I need to buy a new O.S.

It would be nice to save on both the O.S and a SSD when building a new budget gaming desktop. :D

The OS that came with your Y410p (I'm assuming that's what is on the SSD) can't be transfered to the new computer. You'll have to buy another copy of the OS to install on the new computer. However, you can move your SSD over from the Y410p to the new computer; you'd have to install the new OS over the old OS and whatever data's on it currently though.

Do I install the new OS over the old OS on the new build computer or the computer I am currently using?

I'd do it in the new computer.

    Ok.

Is the O.S integrated into the Lenovo y410p's bios or something?

No, but the serial key is. Hence why you can't transfer. Plus your SSD already has your laptop's drivers.

Activation key is embedded in BIOS and it's illegal to transfer an OEM copy of an OS to any computer other than the one it was preinstalled on.
