Is there a taller display than a UXGA 15" 4:3 T60(p)/T61(p)?

what do you mean taller? Do you mean you want resolution higher than the UXGA resolution or LCD larger than 15 inch?
Also, there is no 15 inch 4:3 T61p laptop as such, only 14.1 inch 4:3 with SXGA+ LCD. -
Taller = more vertical height
A 15" 4:3 T6x (presumably--see below) has much more vertical height than a 15" 16:10 T6x. And a LOT more than a 15" 16:9 T410. ("Presumably" because: I have yet to see a 4:3 15" T6x in-person, but have compared my R52 15" display in person to a T61 16:10 15" display. R52 15" much taller.)
I'm wondering: what if any display offers even more vertical height/space? Even if it's a 16"/17" thinkpad (which I've never seen)? Wanting to "exhaust my search" for "tall" thinkpad displays before settling on a T60 15" UXGA Flexview.
@lead_org: does this answer your question? And/or is there anything I'm "missing"?

okay you want a bigger LCD.
You can get a 15 inch IDTech QXGA IPS LCD and install it in a T60p, people have done it successfully. That is highest resolution LCD available to any laptop.
Regarding physically taller LCD, the 17 inch widescreen on the W70x is about the same height as the 15 inch 4:3 LCD, so you are out of luck there. -

IAQX10N - Google Product Search -
-
Ok i am confused what is the resolution he wants and the one you gave him for that IPS panel?
-
QXGA = 2048 x 1536
is this what you asking? -
Damn he got that resolution!! I want that res so bad. QXGA and its a CCFL based IPS panel right? Also how many bits?
-
If your eyes can take the resolution with no DPI-upscaling in Windows, then it is an awesome resolution and unbeatable screen real estate. The problem is when you have to use lower-resolution displays again. Then it feels like you are working in a Fisher-Price version of Windows.
-
And to be clear: I haven't purchased anything yet. Haven't found any thinkpads with QXGA in them, would presumably would need to buy/install that separately.
Additionally: how would the overall quality/brightness of, say, this QXGA IAQX10N panel compare with a HV150UX1-100 (FRU=13N7076) UXGA in the T60p? -
15.0 inch 2048x1536 170.7 DPI 150 Nits 400:1 contrast 60ms response rate (not really good for games) IDTech IAQX10S
15.0 1600x1200 133.3 DPI 200 Nits 500:1 contrast 40ms response BOE-Hydis HV150UX1-100
apart from resolution the UXGA screen that you pointed out is superior in every way. QXGA LCD only came standard in the R50p (in corporate orders), the T60p never shipped with QXGA as standard, they were all put in by modding enthusiasts. -
Ah, very good info, thx again lead_org.

I got a chance to pickup a spare 15" UXGA display pulled from a A21p for bargain-basement price of $15 (another craigslist find). Any idea if this part would work in my "new" T60p? Any way to read off model info off the part itself? (Waiting on pics from the seller...)

TFT display - ThinkWiki
not sure whether this LCD is compatible or not.
But the LCD that you just got is not IPS but a TN model.
Also, given the age of this machine, i think the LCD backlight is probably on the last leg of its life. -
15.0 1600x1200 05K9693 133,3 150 200:1 LG-Philips LP150U1 A20p, A21p, A22p
Specs don't look too good, I'm gonna pass on this one, unless someone thinks I should grab it. Seems like a good idea per:
Before I bought my as-of-yet-to-be-delivered T60p, I read about the same display here (claimed to be FFS in following article?)...which all sounded good... but is it "good"?
forum.thinkpads.com • View topic - Can anyone help me verify the T60 UXGA part number
Is non-IPS/TN/FFS/whatever a good/decent thing? What are the tradeoffs between the different types/flavors? What does it all mean to me as a user (separate from what the "inside"/guts of the technology is going)? Feel free to point me in an RTFM direction...
(Thanks in advance for educating the ignorant...)
Edit:
The FRU=13N7076 / Model=HV150UX1-100 screen/display (apparently in my new T60p) is listed in the "Flexview/FFS IPS TFT Display" section...for whatever that's worth... -
Trying to answer my own question(s):
TFT LCD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
TFT LCD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Haven't read these closely yet (I'm just too tired, long week of Thinkpad hunting), but the answers seem to be in there somewhere....
-
IPS = In Plane Switching.
TN = Twisted Nematic
AFFS = Advanced Fringe Field Switching.
Basically, TN is the cheapest to produce and use the least amount of power, however the colour gamut and luminosity is not good (IPS is good in these two points). But TN has a faster response time, 2 ms is quite common in desktop LCD, while the IPS Desktop LCD probably has response time of 6 ms.
In short TN is like your 100 dollar digital camera, and IPS used in the Thinkpad is like the mid-professional SLR. -
-
Viewing angle - Lagom LCD test
TN = probably fail
IPS = pass
TN is fine for most people though. -
Additionally: How does one know that FRU=13N7076 / Model=HV150UX1-100 is a TN (and not FFS/AFFS/IPS/etc)? Is there some other source/table/lookup/database out there? A couple of other sources (thinkwiki and the above, aforementioned thread) at least suggest it is not TN (and may instead be FFS...or something diff than TN).
Ths also namaiki and ZaZ for your notes, very helpful. -
QXGA-related questions:
* Any known difference between IAQX10N and IAQX10S ? (Only "S" is listed at TFT display - ThinkWiki )
They're at least priced exactly the same from this supplier (assuming their web merchandising is accurate):
IAQX10S from Compuaim
IAQX10N from Compuaim
* Any other QXGA options for T6x line other than above?
* Does it "make sense" to try to upgrade to QXGA for my T60p?
I probably won't want to do this for a while, it at all, but wondering if it even makes sense to think about it in the first place of the QXGA is going to be dim or otherwise sucky compared to my BOE-Hydis HV150UX1-100 in the T60p. Sure I'll get a lot more "virtual screen real estate" with more resolution. But wondering if it's gonna be worth it. Obviously this is highly user-preference driven, and maybe I just need to try it to find out. But if there's something obvious from an experienced-user's perspective that I (as a very *ignorant* screen-display geek) may be missing, please do shout out.
To summarize what I'm looking for: brightness for outdoors (which seems to be a step down in above QXGA display(s)) and more "height" (even if it's "virtual" height) that the resolution might be able to afford me (you can see me wax on and on about how I hate "short" widescreens in all my threads). If this makes any sense... -
Most people whom did this upgrade wanted more screen real estate.
The LCD doesn't exactly fit into the frame, so there is some minor adjusting and slight modding involved, but it is not so hard if you follow the online installation guide. Watching those fast frame action flicks on this screen is not the best, because the response rate is slightly slow.
P.S. i am not sure what the difference is between the S and N model, it is probably minor improvements, but i don't think the major spec would change as such. -

Yep, I was close to sourcing a T220 and even a T221 once but it did not pan out.
Tallest Thinkpad display? Taller than UXGA 15" 4:3 T6x??
