I was looking for a thinkpad on the IBM/Lenovo website, and I was very frustrated to find out that incorrect and inconsistent information was all over the place. For example, the model 1829w61 on the page ( http://caipsgws001.can.ibm.com/store/family?type=fb&action=search) says it has a 1024x768 screen, but on the "product details" page it says SXGA+ IPS. According to the website, most R51 series thinkpads have Radeon 9000 video cards, but the product support pages say they are all Radeon 7500. I called Lenovo and the representative confirmed that R51's had Radeon 7500 video cards. (BTW, the representative answered the phone before I heared the ringing tone, which was amazing!! I wish their website were half as good.)

So what am I supposed to do? I am running the risk of purchasing a computer without really knowing the specifications! Your suggestions and comments are welcome.

When you have a site that huge, there is bound to be errors. When I want to find the specs on a ThinkPad, I google the machine type.

Better yet, when I want the specs on a machine, I refer to my trusty copy of tabook.pdf. (It gets updated every month, IIRC.)

    ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitute/psref/tabook.pdf

It is usually right when there's a discrepancy.

Edit: Except when the model's not listed. tabook is US-centric. It mentions the fact that the 1829 has a one year warranty instead of a three year on the 1830...

IBM's website is much more difficult to use than, say Dell's, for configuring the machine you want (I wish they'd at least allow you to search by specs, for example..)
