Well, this is just a preliminary update. I called up Lenovo and requested a switch of keyboards. Basically, I just told him I wasn't happy with the keyboard (Chicony), gave him the NMB FRU, and he said it will be replaced within 1-2 business days with the NMB. Similarly, my extra battery is down to 70 out of 100% capacity in under a month of use, so they are sending another of those. They requested I send the extra battery back to the depot.

Was super easy, short phone waits. We shall see if everything arrives by Tuesday.

Well, I've typed on an NMB in the past, and it just feels different. it is really a measure of personal preference - some say the CHicony types faster because the keys rebound faster. as a result, they are louder and somewhat looser.

the NMB is softer and quieter, many people simply love it. Soo cant hurt to have two keyboards anyways

You they are just sending you the part? I would think that would at least want the other one back. Particularly on the battery? Ummm yes my battery life is low, can you send me another I can put on ebay?

Do they want the old back. Yeah I would say the chicony vs other laptop keyboards is just as fast as the dell cheapy I had but has better touch. Its a bit clicky also. I had a whole thread asking about the keyboards.

    Hey there.
    May I ask :
"my extra battery is down to 70 out of 100% capacity in under a month of use"

    What does that mean ?
    Thanks.

how did you get service that fast???

i purchased a new Lenovo from Costco. Broadband wireless keeps dropping the connection. was told if it was hardware, it would be replaced, if software, i would have to pay - new laptop (two weeks old)

same laptop (purchased late feb 2007 - new), had the warranty already activated and set to expire aug 2007. laptop was made august 2006 and warranty was activated august 28, 2006. i keep getting told that my issue is a technical issue and they tell me it's a warranty issue. warranty department tells me they will not do anything because Costco resold me a used laptop.

Costco did not recieve them until Dec 2006.

any idea how i can get my laptop replaced - at no cost to me. Costco does not have any more on hand (12" screen, wireless, light weight.) their closest ones cost almost $500 more and i'm a student.

Keyboards don't cost them much unlike batteries. They sent me a new Chicony after two of my keys were jammed on my old Chicony. Obviously if I keep asking for a new keyboard, they're going to think strangely.

Anyway, Chicony is very quiet in my opinion.

Yes, they did request the old battery back, I should have included that. However, I can send it back the old battery back in the same box they send me the new one, with shipping apparently already covered.

    Nice, huh?

Ok, batteries have "memory" in that they begin to correlate their maximum capacity to the charge they typically receive.

My battery had about 29Wh when I first bought it, which equated to approximately 1.5-2 hours.

After doing a battery "reset" (which is designed to INCREASE the capacity), it has a maximum charge of 20Wh, which is about 1 hour. Power Manager keeps track of this data, you can see it all if you just open some options.

The battery has gone through 24 charge cycles, which is comparatively nothing.

This idea of memory isn't a good one for LiIon batteries, its simply that the battery chemistry isn't totally reversible, the cathode(?) I think just builds up an oxide over time and cycles and this lowers the battery life. In any case there is some part of the chemical reaction that isn't fully reversible and that is what causes your battery to loose life over cycles. Anyway thanks for the support update, if my keyboard ever dies I will ask for a NMB maybe.

I do have one other Q I guess that max WH new was 29? Is it a four cell?

Where do you find out what the Wh is suppose to be for your battery? My UltraBay doens't seem to be lasting as long and its getting annoying.

Thanks for the information on Lithiium Ion batteries. If I recall my chemistry, NiCd are the ones that suffer from memory so to say.

It is the 4 Cell ultra bay battery. I am totally impressed by the batteries usage. It really weighs just about the same as the CD drive. WIth the 6 cell and 4 cell batteries, my T60 WS weighs 5.8 lbs (I weighed it).

I have heard good and bad reports about the ultra bay battery. so long as support continues to be this good, i dont care if it lasts long.

Open power manage > Battery Information > click "battery details" arrow > look down in the 1st column

My design capacity is in the 2nd column. It's suppose to br 29.16Wh but the Full Capacity indicated (last gauge reset was 2/14 going to do one today) 20.86Wh. So I do have about 70% left. Bah, my main battery has barely lost a 1wh so this can't be good. Did you do anything special to have the battery shipped first and you returning the old one when you got it?

I'm thinking of doing the keyboard thing too, I don't mind my Chicony that much but people seem to be raving about the NMB so hmm.

i do not plan on switching keyboards immediately. i have no serious gripes, rather, i want to have a keyboard to switch to whenever this one wears out.

it is a pet peeve of mine (and many others im sure) when the space bar and various keys start to get shiny/slippery after tons of use.
